Jan. 16 


Miss’d America Pageant — Atlantic City might have lost the Miss America Pageant, but transvestites strutting their stuff is a lot less stuffy and a lot more fun.


Jan. 27


1980s teen pop star Tiffany presents awards at the ACWeekly.com Nightlife Awards at Boogie Nights at Resorts (now called Night Fever).


Feb. 8


Resorts creates an instant controversy by unveiling a billboard for the revue show Moonshine Follies, which features a women’s derriere, covered by nothing other than a few strings of beads.


Feb. 15


Golden Nugget buys Trump Marina — Tilman J. Fertitta, Chairman, President, CEO and owner of Landry’s, Inc., parent company to the Golden Nugget Las Vegas and Laughlin, announced that Landry’s has agreed to buy the Trump Marina Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City.


Feb. 17


Revel Entertainment secured the final $1 billion-plus it needs to finish construction on the casino on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, a project that is widely considered the best chance for the city to recover from four years of plunging casino revenues. The opening is slated for May 2012 or sooner.


Feb. 19


Lady Gaga was born this way, and brought her unique musical style to Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. She tells the audience she would be back in town in 2012 (no confirmation of that has arrived so far).


March 11-13


Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Tournament — The Richmond Spiders defeated the Dayton Flyers 67-64 to win the A-10 Tourney and an automatic bid into the NCAA championship tournament.


March 17


TV and radio personality Wendy Williams appears at The Pool at Harrah’s and is promptly sued by the event’s promoter. According to reports, Williams was paid $25,000 for a two-hour appearance, but allegedly spent only one hour, most of it drinking with her husband in a private cabana.


March 26


Olympic Gold Medalist Yuriokis Gamboa defeats contender Jorge Solis and successfully defends his featherweight title, as part of an exciting Top Rank boxing card at Boardwalk Hall.


April 1-3


By the time the participants at the Atlantic City Boardwalk Rodeo were packing up and headed to the next destination, an impressive 17,685 fans had turned out for the three-day event. John Barnes, of Barnes Rodeo, said that he would be happy with 10,000 for a first-year event in an interview earlier in the week.


April 5


Former cocktail waitresses at Resorts file a lawsuit against the casino saying they were fired because of a change to sexy uniforms to reflect Resorts new ’20s era theme. Celebrity attorney Gloria Allred is eventually named to represent the servers.


April 16


Charlie Sheen brings his ‘Violent Torpedo of Truth’ tour to the Taj Mahal. It’s the first appearance on the tour for comedian Jeffrey Ross, who brings some semblance of order to the chaotic shows.

In all honesty it is my 10 favorite films of the year, since one’s personal tastes are such a big part of remembering which films gave you the most pleasure or had the biggest emotional impact, or just made you laugh your ass off.
