ATLANTIC CITY — On June 4, 2011, the closing semi-final match-up of Showtime Cable TV’s Super Six World Boxing Classic Tournament will take place at the Adrian Phillips Ballroom at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Carl “The Cobra” Froch (27-1, 20 KOs) of Nottingham, England, will face Glen “The Road Warrior” Johnson (51-14-2, 35 KOs) of Miami, Fla., for a spot in the tournament finals. Froch’s WBC Super middleweight championship belt will also be at stake in what is sure to be a hotly contested boxing affair. The winner will take on WBA Super middleweight champion, Andre “S.O.G” Ward (23-0, 13 KOs) of Oakland, Calif., later in the year in the finals.

Anyone who knows boxing knows that both Froch and Johnson always bring their best. They will be entering Boardwalk Hall, affectionately known as “The House that Arturo Gatti Built,” with every intention to put on a performance that will bring the house down.

In an exclusive interview for acweekly.com, Glen “The Road Warrior” Johnson opens up about a variety of subjects — from his thoughts on The Super Six Tournament, Carl Froch, Bernard Hopkins, as well as the fans. Just as with his performances in the ring, Johnson pulls no punches.

The clock is ticking, and before we know it, you will be trading blows with Carl Froch at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Tell us how your name first landed as a replacement in the Super Six Classic.

You know, I honestly don’t know. I just got a phone call from my manager telling me they wanted to replace Kessler with me, and would I do it. Because I already had gone to a nutritionist about four months prior anyway to see if I could make super middleweight, and with that information I knew I could make the weight. So yeah I jumped at the opportunity when it came my way. For me to tell you who suggested my name, I really don’t know, and I never even asked, to be honest with you. I just said yes, and we signed the contract, and now we are in it.

True boxing fans are looking forward to this match-up because many fighters make it easy for viewers to second guess their will. You two on the other hand have an undisputed reputation of fighters who, win or lose, give your all. You both have faced, at some point, those fighters that you were able to break down. How does it feel to be facing someone who you know will not give up without a true fight?

I look forward to that type of fight, because for the most part, the fans need a treat. They pay good money for a good fight that they can enjoy, and I really believe that is what this fight is going to be. I mean, Carl Froch is no pushover; this guy is a real fighter. They have him as a favorite to beat me, and his style is a perfect style to put on a real fight with me. We both have a go-get- em’ style, whereas at the end of the day, win or lose, the fans will be the true winners.

Froch has been a banger with great success, but you’ve even noted that he showed decent boxing skills in his last fight with Arthur Abraham. In the past he has voice supreme, almost an arrogant confidence going into many of his fights. With you he has been rather respectful going into your fight. That could be a sign that he will think twice about being the banger of old. Which Froch do you think will show up on fight night?

I think he will start out trying to box, but find that to be difficult to do, and then he will have to bang. He can’t box me. He seems to think that Abraham and me have a similar style, and we don’t. We have two different styles, and we are two different boxers. If he thinks that what he did against Abraham is the style to beat me, he is in for a big surprise on the 4th.

Not to look past Froch, but if you win, you will be facing Andre Ward in the Super Six finals. Give us your thoughts on how difficult a fight with him will be.
