Although July 4 falls on a Wednesday this year, it
doesn’t mean that the holiday fun will be in short supply in the southern New Jersey and Atlantic City region. In fact, because the country’s birthday falls mid-week this year, there are related events, activities, concerts, grand openings and more over the next week, including this weekend, which should be a busy one down the shore.

We have gathered concerts and other events throughout this special July 4 issue, but have saved the area’s fireworks displays for this space. From the Atlantic City Boardwalk down to Wildwood, fireworks will be crackling in the night skies throughout the area on Wednesday, July 4.

Atlantic City is planning what local officials say will be “the largest fireworks display in New Jersey,” for Wed., July 4 along the Boardwalk and beach. The show, produced by Fireworks by Grucci, titled “Let it Rock,” is about 20 minutes long and will originate from a barge near The Pier Shops at Caesars. Local radio station 95.1 WAYV FM radio will broadcast music to go along with the fireworks show. The free event will start around 9:30pm.

At about 10pm, a free concert is slated for Kennedy Plaza on the Boardwalk, featuring Kevin Rudolf.

Then, around 10:20pm, a free light show will cap off the night “and set the stage for the rest of the summer,” according to the Atlantic City Alliance (ACA), the organization that will debut its free and permanent 3D sound and light show “Duality” on the façade of Boardwalk Hall. The “highly sophisticated, 3D projection show will include surround sound, theatrical lighting and the latest architectural video mapping technologies to bring Boardwalk Hall’s historic façade to life every night, all year long,” according to the ACA.

Happy birthday, America!

My fellow film critics and I tend to use previous films of a similar genre to compare and contrast the worthiness of the latest entry in that genre. However, when your film is titled Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, there isn’t much hope of finding a similar effort for a side by side comparison.
