And while there is an amazing amount of anticipation surrounding Memorial Weekend with Beyonce choosing Revel for her first post-baby concerts, this weekend isn’t exactly sloppy seconds.
Atlantic City’s newest, biggest and richest cheerleader is a 54-year-old native Texan with the requisite drawl, who refers to his guests as “y’all” and apologized, with a sheepish, aw-shucks grin, for being underdressed at the grand opening of his Golden Nugget casino last week.
Versatile entertainer Stephen Sorrentino has been doing impressions since the age of five, is a multi-instrumentalist, pursued a career as a rock singer and has toured and performed for Legends in Concert with his Elton John tribute. All of the skills he honed in those stops along the way come together in his engaging musical comedy variety show Stephen Sorrentino: Voices in the Head.
In a recent phone interview with All-American Rejects guitarist Mike Kennerty, he addresses the Rejects’ fans, the new album — released March 27 on Interscope — and the tour, which will be making a stop in Atlantic City at the Borgata on Friday, April 13.
To usher in the historic first day for Revel, the property has booked the band The Raveonettes to perform a free show at 9pm at The Social, located near Revel's imaginative casino floor.
Roth: 'The problem today is that kids don’t study and they should. They should study the Beach Boys for harmonies. They should study ZZ Top up until 1983 for guitar work. There’s a lot they should study. But a lot of young recording artists don’t study; they just do it on their own. That’s not right.'
Akron, Ohio rockers The Black Keys have been booked for Revel.
On a mini-tour that is scheduled to swing through Atlantic City at the Borgata on Saturday, March 24, Fiona Apple talks to AC Weekly from the SXSW festival in Austin. Fans: A New album is on the way!

Greetings and salutations. As you are aware, next weekend the Geator, the Bubba Mac Blues Band, Pinky Kravitz, and the entire Longport Media group, WOND and WTKU and my man, Dave Coskey, will be heading down to the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Fla., for South Jersey “Boardwalk Live” weekend. Also joining the Geator will be my pal Frankie Valli, who’s performing at the Hard Rock Live. We’ll dance starting at 5pm Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, March 1, 2, and 3, and I know we’ll see lots of our Florida fans, like Carlos & Vicki, Judi & Jim, and Ed & Linda, down there — hope to see you, too. Before we get to your questions, one of our readers was able to answer a question posed by Joe Breitner in this column a couple months back. The name of the song, from...
"[Atlantic City's] location was really central. You’ve got good facilities, it’s not, you know, like 39 miles on some two-lane country road — that kind of vibe, you know, so it’s just the fact that it’s practical, there’s a lot of facilities and since we’re not doing like a camping thing we thought it would be good to be close to infrastructure so the fans do have like the backbone of a place like Atlantic City at their disposal."
"It was a little bit of a culture shock coming from Las Vegas, as you can imagine. But then when I actually spent some time [in Atlantic City] and spent some time in competitors' casinos, I was pleasantly surprised and I feel that, you know, being involved in Revel is a very exciting piece of history for Atlantic City and I think will change how people look and perceive the market."
Revel reportedly outbid another Atlantic City Casino to book the popular pop rock band, but it’s unlikely they’ll actually christen the new showroom.
The mini-club tour continues in mid-February with shows in Chicago, Atlantic City and Silver Spring, Maryland...
“I was honored that he chose to direct Long Story Short. To tell you the truth, I didn’t think [Seinfeld] was going to be as involved as he was. I thought he would do some things, but he exceeded my expectations."

We understand that a three-day hullabaloo like the Dave Matthews Band Caravan may bring folks to town who have never been here before, and may not have a clue as to what to do before and after the bands perform — or perhaps may want to take a break from the Bader Field confines to see or do something else.
There’s a new player in Atlantic City as the Golden Nugget officially took over operations of the former Trump Marina Tuesday, promising a $100 to $150 million renovation of the aging, and frankly, somewhat boring casino.

“With a lot of positive emotion in my heart, I read online in A.C. Weekly, my home some years ago when it was known as The Whoot, that my old friend, Carmen Marotta is keeping the historic name of Tony Marts alive and well, I had my first legal drink there many years ago, in 1971 when I turned 21. I had the distinct pleasure of being personal friends with the entire Marotta family and I will always have a very deep love for all of the Marotta family but thank God a man named Tony Marotta made Somers Point his home and brought all of we South Jersey natives the best damn rock night club there ever was in the history of South Jersey. My family willl always love Tony, his wife and the entire family...I now live in Central Florida and I will never forget my experiences with my late wife, Cookie at the Marotta homestead and at the club right across the street. Thank you so very much. Bob Everland”

“Entertainment in Atlantic City reaches an all time low number of shows. The Borgata and the Live Nation operated House of Blues at the Showboat are the only two casinos running anywhere near a full schedule.
