Boardwalk Empire earns two awards at Screen Actors Guild ceremony

Boardwalk Empire picked up a couple more awards last night from the Screen Actors Guild. The SAGs are the most prestigious awards next to the Oscars, since the SAGs are voted on by a performer’s peers. Boardwalk Empire took home the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, the highest honor for a television show, and Steve Buscemi took home “The Actor” for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series.
The film acting awards are lining up rather nicely with Natalie Portman and Colin Firth a lock for the big “Os” now that they have won both the Golden Globes and the SAG awards. Christian Bale has also earned both supporting awards and Melissa Leo’s win at the SAGs means she is in a tight race with Golden Globe supporting actress winner Helena Bonham Carter for the Academy Award. The SAG ensemble win for The King’s Speech means that it is the hot movie, and will likely dominate over such competition as The Social Network and True Grit when Oscar night rolls around.
Justified and True Blood actor Stephen Root will appear on Boardwalk Empire starting in season three as "recurring lawman," according to Hollywood Reporter. Root will play "Gaston Means, a former swindler and murder suspect who now works for the Department of Justice."

People who come to see us, they say, ‘When I got here I was in kind of a blah mood, not so good, or depressed, or whatever and I come out in just a whole different place. I’m laughing, my spirits are lifted, it’s cheaper than going to a psychiatrist!’”
The long-awaited DVD set featuring the complete first season of HBO's Boardwalk Empire will be released in January 2012.

Along with the premiere screening, at least three Boardwalk Empire actors have been confirmed to appear at the event — Anthony Laciura (Eddie Kessler), Adam Mucci (Dept. Halloran) and Michael Stuhlbarg (Arnold Rothstein) — and they will likely do meet-and-greets with fans.
“The three eras that attracted me where the 1920s, the ‘50s and the ‘70s. And really HBO’s mandate was [so broad that] I literally had a huge canvass to work from.”
"I wasn’t the only critic that wrote that there is nothing new on broadcast TV that’s as good as Boardwalk Empire. It used to be that cable wouldn’t counter-program against broadcast TV, but in the last few years they’ve gotten stronger and tougher and more arrogant."
