ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — One of the most controversial and funniest films from the late 1960s, Putney Swope, in which an African-American ad executive played by the late Arnold Johnson is in charge of "Truth and Soul. Inc.," is one of the films that will be shown at the 2012 Atlantic City Cinefest, being held Friday, Oct. 12 to Sunday, Oct. 14, in Atlantic City.
The fifth annual festival, presented by the Downbeach Film Festival, will feature the legendary director of that flick — Robert Downey Sr. — in addition to Terry Winter, award-winning creator of the HBO series Boardwalk Empire, and actor Peter Dobson (Forrest Gump, Last Exit to Brooklyn).
Downey will present his classic film on the first night of the festival, Friday, Oct. 12, and will speak about the movie and take part in a Q&A. (Tickets to this event, which starts at 7:30pm at the Showboat Casino, are only $5.)
Showboat, as well as the Golden Nugget and Stockton College's Dante Hall will hold events and screenings during the festival, which will also include an after-party at Revel on Friday night.
Winter, creator, writer and executive producer for Boardwalk Empire, will be at the festival on Saturday afternoon to participate in a free panel discussion on filmmaking and chatting about the new season of the HBO series set in Atlantic City during Prohibition. Winter is also going to be previewing an upcoming episode of Boardwalk Empire season three.
The discussion and screening will take place at Dante Hall Theater.
Winter also wrote the upcoming Martin Scorsese film The Wolf of Wall Street, a film in which IMDB summarizes as: "A New York stockbroker refuses to cooperate in a large securities fraud case involving corruption on Wall Street, corporate banking world and mob infiltration."
Winter and Scorsese are also collaborators on Boardwalk Empire in addition to an upcoming project set in New York in the 1970s relating to the music scene. The project also includes Mick Jagger.
Dobson will screen his short 2012 film White Mule. He will also be on the prestigious panel.
Along with a panel discussion, films will be shown Saturday and Sunday. An awards ceremony will be held at Dante Hall followed by the closing reception at Showboat.
Golden Nugget will show local (New Jersey) horror films on Sunday afternoon, including Azrael and Ticket to Hell and The Meat Puppet.

This year’s Oscar showdown is about the roots of filmmaking history from its very beginnings — Martin Scorsese’s Hugo — to the stylish era of 1920s silent movies (The Artist).
Martin Scorsese not only directed the 2010 pilot for HBO's Boardwalk Empire, but remains a very important part of the series set in 1920s Atlantic City, serving as executive producer on the first two completed seasons. He also filmed The Color of Money (1986) in A.C. Dylan, on the other hand...
In order to put us in the right frame of mind, Scorsese’s take on the genre is set in the 1950s, with a screenplay by Laeta Kalogridis, based on the novel by Dennis Lehane (Mystic River). We are introduced to Shutter Island via a ferry ride to the island off the coast of Boston taken by U.S. Marshalls Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo). They are coming to the spooky Ashecliffe Hospital to solve the mystery of a missing inmate.

Terry Winter, the executive producer, creator and one of the chief writers for the award-winning, Martin Scorsese directed HBO drama series Boardwalk Empire, has finally wrapped filming on the second season's last episode as of Wednesday, Sept. 7.
