The 'Thunder' Is Back as the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds will headline the show
The official date has been announced for the 2014 Atlantic City Air Show, “Thunder Over the Boardwalk.” The show will take place Wednesday, Aug. 13.
In truth there wasn’t much “thunder” in the show last year. Due to mandatory spending cuts known as sequestration, the US military was forced to cancel all appearances at air shows in 2013.
David Schultz, president of David Schultz Airshows LLC, which has been the operations and coordination company for the Thunder Over the Boardwalk Air Show since its inception in 2003, has made the announcement that the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds will participate in the 2014 show.
“Atlantic City is once again excited to welcome the USAF Thunderbirds back to the Thunder Over the Boardwalk in August 2014. We also expect to have the US Army Golden Knights Parachute Team back for August. Other performers and participants will be announced later in the spring of 2014."
The Thunderbirds had been a regular participant in the Atlantic City Air Show since it began in 2003.
It should also be noted that the military cutbacks last year also prevented our own locally based military unit, the New Jersey Air National Guard’s 177th Fighter Wing, from participating and being hosts for the show.
Because of the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the Air Show in 2013 was moved to June to show visitors that the Boardwalk was in good shape following erroneous reports that the Atlantic City Boardwalk had been destroyed.

This time of year, the region presents plenty of options to enjoy holiday music and other fun events for the family. Here are some of those events.
This year, New Year’s Eve falls on a Tuesday, which just might be the second-worst night of the week to celebrate the year-end holiday. The absolute worst night, many agree, is Wednesday — too far removed from the previous weekend, too early for the next.
“The air show is one of the Atlantic City’s greatest summer assets."
