The Atlantic City Food and Wine Festival got off to a fabulous start Thursday night (July 29) at the official kick-off party at the Chelsea Hotel. As promised, a ton of Food Network stars including Guy Fieri and Robert Irvine were on hand to mingle with fans and enjoy a cocktail or two and the sliders, spring rolls and other munchies circulating around the outdoor pool on the Chelsea’s fifth floor.

Adding to the Food Network vibe were the televisions in each poolside cabana running episodes of the networks’ Next Food Network Star. Speaking about those up and comers hoping to follow in the footsteps of Season Two winner Fieri, I spotted current contestants Brad Sorenson, Serena Palumbo, Tom Pizzica and Aarti Sequeira circulating at the party.

When it comes to culinary superstars, you can’t beat the duo of Fieri and Irvine. Irvine, star of Dinner: Impossible and a former chef at the Trump Taj Mahal and Caesars, is not participating as a chef in the fest, but couldn’t pass up a party. Fieri has the rock star look down with his designer sunglasses and his spiked blonde hair. As I talked with people at the party and asked them about other events, most of them said they were attending Guy’s Cheesesteak Battle, which takes place tonight, July 30, 7-10pm.

Other top chefs spotted at the party were Anne Burrell (Worst Cooks In America) and Melissa d’Arabian (Ten Dollar Dinners), who won Season Five of The Next Food Network Star.

“It's unfortunate when regular people like Guy and Anne become celebrities they are unable to be themselves and everything becomes so orchestrated. The Kick off party did not meet our expectations at all. It seemed that everyone there was looking to get noticed by networks or they were tere on a vendor/company ticket. we were so looking forward to a more low key Meet and Greet. The party never really got started for us!! Sorry but a thumbs down.”
