Movies on the beach.

ATLANTIC CITY — Ominous flashes of lightning lit up the night. Birds hovered above, silhouetted against the lights of the pier below. It was the perfect setting for a horror film — and that wasn’t even what was on the screen.

An incoming storm helped intensify the viewing experience for film fans on the beach next to the Pier Shops at Caesars for the first night of the free “Movies on the Beach” Tribeca Film Series. The movie was perfectly aligned with the weather, the horror comedy Grave Encounters.

But more about the movie in a moment. Let’s rewind the evening to the beginning, the grand opening of the Atlantic Grill at Caesars, the “dinner” part of the “Dinner and a Movie” event put together by Caesars.

Atlantic City has been blessed with an influx of new quality restaurants the last several months including Dos Caminos, Bill's Bar and Burgers and Luke Palladino at Harrah’s Resort, Harry’s Oyster Bar & Seafood at Bally’s and Chart House at the Golden Nugget. Atlantic Grill has now joined the party as an excellent addition for the ever-expanding local dining scene, featuring elegant décor, a showcase bar area in the middle of the space and a gorgeous view of the beach and ocean. Oh, and by the way, the food is terrific.

The Atlantic Grill specializes in seafood and sushi and both elements are done right. Part of the BR Guest Hospitality Company, there are two Atlantic Grill locations in New York City, now joined by the A.C. location.

Our delicious evening began with a couple of signature cocktails. My friend Sally selected the Snapdragon, peach infused vodka, and moscato d’asti while I went with a watermelon margarita with milagro blanco, maraschino liqueur, fresh watermelon and lime. Both were refreshing and not as sweet as one might expect.
