MAYS LANDING, N.J. — Verbal Designs Entertainment (VDE) will host its first Indie Music Festival Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Watering Hole Cafe in Mays Landing. The event will showcase local artists from a diverse set of musical backgrounds, ranging from rock ‘n’ roll to hip hop. With over 50 acts alternately performing on a single stage, the festival will feature a jam-packed list of acts, making for a non-stop day of entertainment.

VDE, an independent hip-hop record label located in Mays Landing, opted to produce the festival in order to provide local talent a platform to perform their own original music. By creating a day-long concert event, VDE hopes to give local Indie artists a chance to share their own music with a larger audience.

Dead Fish Handshake, right.

According to festival producers, “Rock-and-roll cover bands may be well known in our area for covering other artists’ songs but not for their own original music. The indie festival gives these bands an opportunity to play original music for their fans and music fans alike. This is a great opportunity for local artists and music lovers to come together and experience music together at its grass roots.”

The show will begin with ska/punk band Autocracy East, followed by the hip-hop act Illogick & Mizphit. And who better to bring these opposite musical worlds together than punk-inspired, hip-hop artist J E Double F, performing later Saturday afternoon. As for others on the eclectic line-up to look out for, don’t miss Throwdown Syndicate, a group that describes its sound as “groove-ghetto metal to warm the cockles of your heart and the muscles of your soul.”

Along with original music, the festival will feature products from a large array of vendors, including crafts, henna tattoo art, and face painting. Guests will also have the chance to meet performing bands and artists.

The concert will run from noon-10pm Saturday. Tickets are $10 for adults, and children under age 12 receive free entry. For the full lineup of bands and performers, see the festival schedule posted below.
