The 11th annual Jazz on the Beach series, presented by the Chicken Bone Beach Historical Foundation, kicks off July 1 and continues each Thursday through Aug. 12 on the Atlantic City Boardwalk.

The line-up for the 11th annual Jazz on the Beach concert series in Atlantic City has been announced and the schedule is chock full of amazing talent.
Presented by the Chicken Bone Beach Historical Foundation (CBBHF), this year's free summer jazz series kicks off Thursday, July 1 on the Atlantic City Boardwalk at Kennedy Plaza.
The concerts continue every thursday through Aug. 12.
For the first time, the CBBHF jazz series is coming off a successful winter series, the Jazz Corner, which was held with much success at the Chelsea on Thursday nights over the winter and early spring months.
Some of the highlights of the Jazz Corner series, co-produced by Malkio Entertainment, was the "Battle of the Saxes," Tony Day's Across the Globe band and the spoken-word artists who performed.
Hopefully, the Chelsea will continue this winter jazz series come next winter.
As far as this summer is concerned, the series will feature two acts each night: a local opener from 7-8pm and then an internationally acclaimed headliner from 8-10pm.
Kennedy Plaza, on the Boardwalk between Mississippi and Georgia avenues, has a stage for the bands and offers beautiful views. Mark your calendars for these dates if you're interested in free live jazz music in the ocean air.

Before Kicking off the Jazz on the Beach concert series in 2000, Henrietta Shelton hadn't realized that it would put her American Express card $14,000 in debt. But the president and founder of the Chicken Bone Beach Historical Foundation, Inc., wasn't going to let a little thing like money stop her from nurturing the series into one of the city's most popular summer events. "It's just a project I believe in," says Shelton, a 31-year employee at the William J. Hughes Technical Center. The long-time A.C. resident is currently making final arrangements for this summer's concert series, which is scheduled to begin July 6 and run through Aug. 24 at Kennedy Plaza. Initially, the idea for the free weekly concert series, which has presented well known jazz musicians (Donald Byrd, Gloria Lynne, Greg Osby) on the Boardwalk during the months of July and August for the past several years, came to Shelton after presenting a single concert on the beach at Missouri Avenue featuring famed jazz vibraphonist Roy Ayers in August 2000. Soon one of the hottest spots in Atlantic City will get even hotter. The newly opened, retro-styled Chelsea hotel will become the home of a new weekly jazz series in town, which, as it would appear, is the perfect match with the series' open-minded slate of performances
Free concerts on the Atlantic City Boardwalk have become quite a staple over the last few years. The Atlantic City Free Public Library sponsored another series of free concerts in its international night series on Wednesdays at Kennedy Plaza and Bally’s has turned the plaza in front of the Dennis Hotel into a major spot for free performances with Blue Oyster Cult playing Saturday. But the concert series that started it all, The Chicken Bone Beach concert series, offers up one final concert for the summer Thursday (Aug. 27) when Kennedy Plaza gets taken over by the N.Y.P.D. Well, 18 of then anyway, as New York’s Finest Jazz Ensemble makes an appearance. The band is comprised of 18 New York cops, all members of the city’ full police band.
