"Miss America’s return to her home in Atlantic City, New Jersey will be a 13 day event following Labor Day weekend and will include three nights of Preliminary Competitions that will take place on Sept. 10, 11 and 12 at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall."
The Miss America Pageant will not be held on a Saturday this year, likely due to ABC running Saturday night football in September.
On Wednesday, March 20, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie announced the date for the Miss America pageant, which is returning to Atlantic City this September, as announced this past winter.
The pageant will be held Sunday, Sept. 15, according to The Miss America Organization (MAO) and the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA), the Atlantic City Alliance (ACA) and the Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority (ACCVA).
"Miss America’s return to her home in Atlantic City, New Jersey will be a 13 day event following Labor Day weekend and will include three nights of Preliminary Competitions that will take place on Sept. 10, 11 and 12 at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall," read the statement released Wednesday by the MAO. "This historic return to Atlantic City will be a monumental event complete with the much anticipated Miss America 'Show Us Your Shoes Parade' that will be held on the famed Atlantic City Boardwalk on Saturday, Sept. 14."
“We are so excited to announce the date and sincerely thank Governor Chris Christie and the State of New Jersey and Atlantic City for their help in bringing Miss America home," said
Sam Haskell III, chairman of the Board for the MAO.
"We look forward to creating an incredible new era for our organization as we return to Atlantic City on September 15th live on ABC! We are now looking forward to creating the most exciting television event ever for Miss America’s return home with the support of our network partner ABC — we know it will be a spectacular television event.”
Meanwhile, Miss America’s president and CEO Art McMaster stated.“This September, we will be proud to showcase Atlantic City and Miss America together on network television. Miss America has evolved into a national pastime and our organization enables over 12,000 young women to participate in our scholarship program each and every year. We know that the country will embrace our return to our birthplace and experience a new and very relevant Miss America,”
Tickets for the Miss America 2014 Competition will be on sale soon. The MAO says to check its Web site in May for details (missamerica.org).
“At that moment I was completely shocked and overwhelmed,” she says. “I thought they had made a mistake. I believe I said, ‘Oh my God’ and ‘thank you.’”
Joni Mitchell: “Don’t it always seem to go, that you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone.”
"I attended the pageant a couple of times when it was in Las Vegas, but I have to tell you now that it is back I think it will be wonderful."

The town of Atlantic City felt jilted when Miss America left town and fled west to Sin City, Las Vegas. While the economic reasons for the change were compelling, including the loss of a viable television contract to broadcast the pageant, it was still a shock when the pageant left in 2005, showing up on the CMT network in January 2006.
"I am looking forward to being here and participating in the pageant especially the Boardwalk Parade."

The Miss America Pageant is coming back home to Atlantic City in 2013, but it may not be the Miss America Pageant of old. In an exclusive interview with Atlantic City Weekly, the organization's CEO Art McMaster says a date for the pageant should be set within a week or so. Are there more changes in store for this year's pageant?
“Since coming to Las Vegas it seems to me the Pageant has lost its wholesomeness, which always set it apart from the other pageants.”
The classic Miss America theme song, "There She Is Miss America," with its lyrics — “The dream of a million girls who are more than pretty can come true in Atlantic City” — is relevant once again. The Miss America Pageant is headed back to Atlantic City.
