Atlantic City Weekly and acweekly.com are proud to announce this year’s finalists in our 5th annual Readers’ Choice Nightlife Awards.
When Atlantic City was walloped by Hurricane Sandy last fall, it wasn’t long after the curfew was lifted on the city that the resort’s many nightclubs. taverns and lounges were again packed with patrons. Some of the nightclubs in and around Atlantic City held special Hurricane Sandy Relief fundraisers while others helped people forget about the final week of October as they danced till dawn.
And then the beats and late-night partying went full-throttle as the end of the year came and went, offering more top-shelf nightlife options, including celebrity DJs galore and parties at some of the hottest clubs on the East Coast.
And that’s why Atlantic City Weekly and acweekly.com are proud to announce this year’s finalists in our 5th annual Readers’ Choice Nightlife Awards. It was a little more than five years ago when the idea came up to have our readers pick their favorites in a number of local (inside the casinos and out) nightlife categories.
For this, our fifth year, we received more votes from more people since we started the annual awards. Now that’s some positive news out of Atlantic City you might not catch with some media still under the impression that the city was wiped clean off the face of the earth in the storm. We’re thinking this uptick also means that we’re going to have a blast at Boogie Nights — new at Tropicana this year — on Thursday night, Jan. 24, when the awards ceremony will be held and the winners of each category honored (including runners up in some categories) — all followed by one of the biggest parties of the year.
(The Nightlife Awards after-party at Boogie Nights is open to the public after 8pm.)
“We couldn’t be more excited about this year’s Nightlife Awards,” says Atlantic City Weekly editor Jeff Schwachter. “This event will signify to one and all that Atlantic City’s nightlife not only survived Hurricane Sandy, but the party is going stronger than ever. This project was created to celebrate the talented people who help make Atlantic City the unique, high-energy entertainment destination that it is.”
Readers voted on ACWeekly.com starting in late Summer and ending Dec. 31, 2012. Categories include “Best Nightclub,” “Best Happy Hour,” “Best LGBT Party Place,” “Best Casino Lounge Act,” “Best Club to Spot a Celebrity,” “Best Locals Bar” and more.
”The awards bash has always taken place at the end of January, giving party people and nightlife-industry folks a great reason to come out in the middle of winter and party,” adds Schwachter. “This year’s event will find a new home at Boogie Nights’ brand new location within Tropicana. With the incredibly talented team at Tropicana working with us on this event, it’s guaranteed to be bigger and better with some incredible surprises.”
At this year’s awards show, to celebrate the fifth year of the party, there will be a few new twists, including the first Nightlife Awards Lifetime Achievement Award winner and special guests, including Young MC, who’ll be performing the following night, also at Boogie Nights.
“I can think of no better stage for the Nightlife Awards, which have become the signature event for the industry,” says Tony Rodio, president and CEO for Tropicana Entertainment, LLC.

“Is there Arts and Entertainment any more in that city of losers? Lets talk about the days of real Entertainment!! 50 weeks a year, 2 shows a night, 6 days a week! Several real lounges in every Casino with real bands of musicians!! No DJ crap or sequenced duos!!! What a joke!!!!! I am so glad to be away from the people who run a entertainment in that town!! Oh, should we talk about how long Entertainers, local NJ people that is, have to wait to be paid for their services now by many of the Casinos? How about say 45 days after the performance of their services!!! What a joke!!!
Former full time bassist at many of the AC Casinos!

“You really need to have a better method for winning this award. It was admitted by many they forged names, emails and numbers to get the win.”

“This is BS. I can't believe the Chelsea Pub didn't win a single category. Too many douchey fist pumpers voting I guess”

“The diving horse isn't a real strip club. How about a desperate category for bikini bars?”
