Thanks to all of AC Weekly's contributing photographers and staffers for shooting the year in the Atlantic City and southern New Jersey shore areas for us all to see.
IN A YEAR THAT WILL FOREVER be remembered for the close of the Iraq War, the start of Occupy Wall Street and related protest movements across the country, the Arab Spring in the Middle East, the capture and killing of Osama bin Laden and Moammar Gadhafi, the death of North Korea’s Kim Jong Il, the horrifying governmental gridlock in Washington, and a world economy still mired in a mammoth slump, Atlantic City offered some diversions and positive stories.
For starters, the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA) commenced its mission to create a Tourism District Master Plan for Atlantic City (due Feb. 1, 2012).
Also, the Atlantic City Alliance was created to re-brand and market the city, a successful Boardwalk Rodeo was held in April, the three-day Dave Matthews Band Caravan music festival went off without a hitch at Bader Field in June and some of the biggest stars in entertainment appeared in town, from Lady Gaga showing up at Britney Spears’ Boardwalk Hall gig to Jay-Z and Kanye West’s joint Watch the Throne show to the Caesars Tribute II salute to the ladies of ice skating. Johnny Sansone and Susan Cowsill’s show was one of the highlights at the Mardi Gras on the Boardwalk series.
The Golden Nugget moved into the former site of the Trump Marina in May, with renovations continuing through the year.
Gay club Prohibition debuted at Resorts in May.
Cake Boss Buddy Valastro and Tropicana CEO Tony Rodio celebrate the property’s 30th anniversary Nov. 26.
Rihanna’s LOUD tour hit the Borgata in July.

Hurricane Irene hits shore area in August.
