ATLANTIC CITY — Harrah’s Entertainment and Caesars continue to think big this summer.

First there was the announcement of the Atlantic City Food & Wine Festival (July 29-Aug. 1, featuring all of your favorite Food Network stars and a mouth-watering list of events and workshops), then came the opening of Harrah’s Viking Cooking School, and then there was news that movies from the famed Tribeca Film Festival of New York are coming to Atlantic City, courtesy of Harrah’s Entertainment.

An outdoor 33-by-20-foot high-def screen will show four indie flicks — many of which are the year’s most anticipated films — which have been presented at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Best part: Each of the beach screenings is free to the public.

The Tribeca Cinema Series at Caesars’ beach (July 8-11) will show films from around the world, including, The Infidel (UK), directed by Josh Appignanesi and written by David Baddiel; The Trotsky (Canada), directed and written by Jacob Tierney and starring Jay Baruchel; My Last Five Girlfriends (UK), directed and written by Julian Kemp; and TiMER (USA), directed and written by Jac Schaeffer.

The screenings, which will be held on the Caesars beach at Arkansas Avenue, begin at sundown each of the four nights.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer such a high-caliber slate of films for Atlantic City guests and residents, who will be able to enjoy these movies on the beautiful beaches at center Boardwalk,” said Jennifer Weissman, regional VP of marketing for Harrah’s Entertainment.

“Caesars Atlantic City is known for bringing unique entertainment to the shore and the Tribeca Film Festival is the perfect partner to make this the most sought-after destination.”

Nancy Schafer, the director of the Tribeca Film Festival sees the Tribeca Cinema Series at Caesars as “a great way to showcase a wide range of independent films to a new audience in an enchanting venue.”

Schafer adds, “We are eager to continue working with Caesars Atlantic City to bring quality independent films to this beachside resort.”

It is expected that Schafer and many others behind the Tribeca Film Festival will be in town for the series.

This is great news for indie-film fans here in southern New Jersey, as most of the local movie theaters do not show such films and indie-film fans have to trek up to Philadelphia’s Ritz theaters to catch a new indie-film most of the time.

The series’ screen will also be a crowd pleaser as it’s a top-of-the-line HD screen, which will be situated between Sammy’s Beach Bar and the Pier Shops at Caesars.

With all the screenings happening at sundown, it is likely that both Sammy’s and The Pier Shops at Caesars and its many Level 3 restaurants and bars will benefit from the film series. In addition, during the Tribeca Cinema Series, Caesars will be offering a $35 prix fixe menu at its restaurants, which include Mia, Nero’s Grill and Primavera. Several of the Tribeca Film Festival organizers will be in Atlantic City for the series.

Here are detailed descriptions and links to trailers for the films in the Tribeca Cinema Series in Atlantic City:

Thursday, July 8 (Opening) @ Caesars Beach
Film: The Trotsky (directed by Jacob Tierney and starring Jay Baruchel, Geneviève Bujold, Anne-Marie Cadieux, Colm Feore, Emily Hampshire, Michael Murphy, Saul Rubinek)
Synopsis: Like most high schoolers, Leon Bronstein (Jay Baruchel, Tropic Thunder) is having an identity crisis. What differentiates Leon, however, is that he believes he is the reincarnation of Soviet thinker Leon Trotksy and predestined to follow the same path as his namesake. Tackling issues from students’ rights to semi-formal dances, this “revolutionary” comedy will have you united in laughter. 113 minutes. (View trailer)

Friday, July 9 @ Caesars Beach
Film: TiMER (directed by Jac Schaeffer and starring Emma Caulfield, Michelle Borth, John Patrick Amedori, Desmond Harrington, JoBeth Williams, Kali Rocha)
Synopsis: Finding true love is easier than ever thanks to a bio-technological implant called the TiMER, which counts down to the exact time people meet their soul mates. Love-starved Oona (Emma Caulfield, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) is pushing 30, but her TiMER hasn’t even started counting down yet. What’s worse, she’s falling for a guy (John Patrick Amedori, Gossip Girl) who is set to meet his true love in four months. Newcomer Jac Schaeffer crafts a smart romantic comedy that leaves behind the burning question... would you want to know? 99 minutes. (View trailer)

Saturday, July 10 @ Caesars Beach
Film: The Infidel (directed by Josh Appignanesi and starring Omid Djalili, Richard Schiff, Archie Panjabi, Igal Naor, Amit Shah)
Synopsis: Mahmud Nasir (comedian Omid Djalili) may not be the most observant Muslim, but deep down he is a true believer. His life is turned upside down when he learns he was adopted—but most scandalous is that his birth mother was Jewish! And his given name was Solly Shimshillewitz! As Mahmud tumbles into a full-scale identity crisis, a true comedy of religious errors unfolds. 105 minutes. (View trailer)

Sunday, July 11 @ Caesars Beach
Film: My Last Five Girlfriends (directed by Julian Kemp and starring Brendan Patricks, Naomie Harris, Jane March, Cécile Cassel, Kelly Adams, Edith Bukovics)
Synopsis: Based on the international bestseller On Love by Alain de Botton, this delightful romantic comedy explores with delicious wit and whimsy just how modern urban relationships go wrong. Surveying the wreckage of his last five relationships, thirty-something Duncan (Brendan Patricks) concludes that love is a battleground where only the fittest survive. 85 minutes. (View trailer)

“Hi~
I read the article in the hard copy of the AC Weekly initially and it list a different selection of movies than what is listed here. Which one is the correct list? I have a feeling that the one above is the correct one, but there were films I wanted to see more so listed in the actual paper.
Thank you!”
