2009 Readers' Choice Nightlife Awards winners

Last fall, when we hatched the idea to ask our readers to pick their favorites in our inaugural Readers' Choice Nightlife Awards, we were hoping to celebrate the region's rich nightlife offerings. However, we weren't sure what kind of response we'd get. Sure, our area is brimming with exciting nightlife options -- always has been -- and we've covered the region's nightlife scene for 35 years (formerly as the Whoot!), but let's face it, aside from many loyal locals, a lot of the Atlantic City area's nightlife hot spots are frequented by visitors -- especially during the warmer months. Would the same people who party at their favorite dance club till the break of dawn all weekend also take the time to nominate their preferred places to boogie down before heading home?

We hoped they would. And many of them did.

Here are the winners of the 2009 Readers' Choice Nightlife Awards. We salute them and all of the clubs and venues in our region. We also thank all of our readers who voted and the various sponsors of our Nightlife Awards event, which will be held at Boogie Nights at Resorts tonight (Jan. 22) with an after party open to the public starting at 10pm.

The Atlantic City region's nightlife scene has been evolving since its early days, but one thing has remained true -- there's always been a variety of great nightlife venues in the city (and region) that's always turned on.

(Editor's note: Voters were asked to pick a favorite in each category both in and outside of Atlantic City. When a winner was determined from outside of Atlantic City in a specific category, it is listed beneath the Atlantic City winner as "regional.")
