Cocktails on the Dock of the Bay
-->
Relaxing on a dock overlooking the bay is a great way to enjoy summertime at the Shore -- and to help a local charity. The Red Door Society of Gilda's Club South Jersey will host a cocktail party on the bay at the historic Derby Hall in Ventnor on Friday, July 27. The Red Door Society is presenting the event to raise money for Gilda's Club South Jersey and its more than 600 annual programs, which supports those living with cancer, as well as their families.
Historic Derby Hall in Ventnor is home of Gilda's Gladiators and their Dragon Boat, the "Marchelley." Partygoers can view the famous Dragon Boat while enjoying cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. Scales on the sides of the Dragon Boat feature the names of patrons who have donated to the foundation (donations are $50 to have your name placed on a scale).
Area VIPs from the media and community who will attend include Event Chairpersons George and Debbie Miller, Event Coordinator Bill McCullough and Honorary Chairpersons and Mayors Michael Becker of Margate, Mary Garvin of Longport, Tim Kreischer of Ventnor and Bob Levy of Atlantic City. Becky Orsatti provides the music.
All donations help Gilda's Club of South Jersey, an organization that provides places where people with cancer and their families and friends can join with others to build social and emotional support as a supplement to medical care. Free of charge and non-profit, Gilda's Clubs offer support and networking groups, lectures, workshops and social events in a nonresidential, home-like setting. Funding is solicited from individuals, corporations and foundations. -- Steve Angelucci
Gilda's Club cocktail party takes place on Friday, July 27, from 6:30-8:30pm at 11 North Derby Avenue in Ventnor. Tickets for the cocktail party are $75 for those over 40 and $50 for those younger. Dress is casual. Contact Sarah Griffith at 926-2699 for more information on this event or if you would like to have your name placed on the Dragon Boat.
Straight ahead, looming across the island, the spectacular lights of Harrah’s Resort, the Borgata/Water Club and Golden Nugget all sparkle in the still distance. There is literally no place quite like it in Atlantic City.
