Event to benefit Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic City and The First Tee of Greater Atlantic City.
The second annual Skins Fore Kids Golf Tournament will take place Monday, Sept. 26, at the nationally acclaimed Hidden Creek Golf Club in Egg Harbor Township. The event benefits both the Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic City — an organization that “enables young people to reach their full potential as caring, responsible citizens” — and the First Tee of Greater Atlantic City — a non-profit organization that “introduces youngsters to the game of golf while providing valuable life skills training.”
“This year we’re thrilled for the consolidation of benefiting both the Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic City and the First Tee, since their missions are so similar,” says event co-chairperson Diane McKoy.
The multi-faceted Skins Fore Kids tournament features appearances by PGA Tour stars Rocco Mediate and Mark Calcavecchia. Mediate, reputed as one of the most gregarious and popular players on Tour, has six PGA wins in a 26-year career. He is perhaps best known for his epic battle with Tiger Woods in the 2008 U.S. Open, which Woods ultimately won in a dramatic playoff. He ranks 45th all-time on the PGA Tour career money list with more than $16.5 million in earnings. Calcavecchia, who now plays on the Champions Tour, is a 13-time PGA Tour winner and is 21st all time on the career money list with more than $24 million in earnings. His most notable career victory was the 1989 British Open championship.
“Mediate is a close friend of one of our committee members and Calcavecchia is a close friend of Mediate, so all was good in securing both players,” says McKoy. “Last year’s event featured [PGA pros] John Daly and Angela Stanford (pictured right), and the event netted approximately $50,000. One hundred percent of the spectator tickets goes toward both the Boys and Girls Club and First Tee.”
There are numerous ways to participate in the Skins Fore Kids Tournament. Raffle tickets are $100 for a chance to be one of three participants to play in the nine-hole Skins Game with Mediate and Calcavecchia. There are several sponsorship opportunities also, and spectator tickets are available for $25 apiece. For more information, go to the Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic City Web site or call (609) 347-2697.
