When director J.J. Abrams rebooted the Star Trek franchise with such consummate skill, balancing the expectations of long time Trekkies with his take on their beloved characters while also forging a superior action film that had a more modern sensibility, he set the bar very high. Star Trek: Into Darkness does not quite reach the heights of the first film, but it does pass muster as a terrific summer popcorn movie.

Since I received a death threat (seriously) when I panned the original Iron Man movie, I’m happy to report that Iron Man 3 is by far the best film in the series with a sensational story beautifully presented, and featuring Robert Downey, Jr.'s best performance to date as Tony Stark.

Michael Bay, the director famous for putting the biggest bang in big-bang movies and conversely, the least amount of character development and emotional connection in his big-screen efforts, thinks he is presenting a change of pace with his so-called comedy Pain & Gain.
