Details: Hosted by DJ Vitalik and DJ Ahmed Khan, International Night began in 2000 at the bygone Déjà Vu nightclub on New York Avenue before being recently revived by the Chelsea. DJs play house, electro, reggae and old school. It includes $5 vodka drinks, $3 beer specials, and European bottle service is available ($175 bottle of Absolute bottle service special only for Euro Night).
From the DJ: “It’s always been consistently crowded since it started, but recently it’s broadened from encompassing mostly visitors from the Western Europe or the Baltic regions to countries like Turkey, Armenia, Serbia and others,” says Kahn, who has been an International Night DJ/VJ since its inception. “We’ll actually specialize the night occasionally. We’ll tailor it to a Bulgarian Night or a Ukrainian Night or whatever.” Most of the club goers, says Kahn, have J-1 visa permits that allow them to study abroad for a designated period of time. “They’re all very nice, polite young people, and they just love to dance. Many of them get off their work shifts around midnight and are at the club by 1am. They certainly like American pop music, but usually at the dance parties they prefer house and electro.”

While the overseas nations sending students abroad tends to change occasionally, the styles and musical preferences in nightclubs have grown more analogous — most likely due to Internet access making dance music more accessible worldwide.
