Pool Parties

More properties are structuring their social schedules
and nightlife scenes around pools, and not just during
the summer months.

“[H2O] has been very well received by customers [since opening in May],” says Golden Nugget general manager Tom Pohlman.

“We turned an area that was pretty plain and basic into one that just thrives with people, and not only on weekends but there’s a good vibe [mid-week] and a lot of energy out here. There’s also a bar and grill with its own kitchen and own menu … The pool’s heated and we’ve implemented fire pits, Jacuzzis, and an atmosphere very much like you’d find when you go to Aspen or a ski resort [in the wintertime]. It adds a fun, vibrant energy to our newly renovated property.”

Caesars joined the poolside pandemonium with its Suite 7400, which features DJ entertainment every Friday and Saturday from 10pm-3am, a sizable bar and bikini-clad waitress service, hot tub and sun deck, bottle-service and signature cocktails, and all-new cabanas and poolside furniture. This weekend it’s DJ J Spin spinning on Friday (Aug. 10) and DJ Johnny Looch on Saturday (Aug. 11). The cover is $10.

The Chelsea hotel gets guests grooving early with its Cabana Club Pool Party on the fifth-floor every Saturday from 1-5pm. This week it’s DJ Sonatra spinning. The cover is $10 for non-hotel guests and free for hotel guests. Later on Saturday, migrate down to Chelsea’s Oasis Pool for the One Love Reggae Groove Party from 5:30-9pm, which partially overlaps Teplitzky’s five-hour Happy hour (3-8pm) and includes live Caribbean, Calypso and steel-drum music. This Saturday it’s a quartet from Philly called Trinidelphia, and rounding out August are the bands Pan Fried and Siesta Key at the Oasis Pool. Admission is free.

Revisiting the term game changer, A.C.’s new mega-resort Revel boasts its year-round, heated In-Out Pool that’s part of its Sky Garden level 114 feet off the Boardwalk. It starts indoors and continues outside through a retractable glass door, and while Revel is not touting the In-Out Pool as a nightlife destination per se, it is located adjacent to the 25-seat O Bistro and Wine Bar that offers a crafted wine list, specialty cocktails, and a small-plates menu by star chef Michel Richard served up in a sort of calypso vibe. The bar menu is offered noon-10pm daily.
