A media preview and ribbon-cutting ceremony took place last weekend at Caesars' spectacular new nightclub Dusk, and doors to the multi-tiered, 10,000-square foot entertainment complex are now open every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday night starting at 10pm. Grand opening parties will be hosted this Saturday and Tuesday (service industry night), July 4 and 7, by the club's renowned co-owner, DJ AM.

Multi-faceted entertainment purveyor Red Stripe Plane Group teamed with DJ AM to bring the cutting-edge club to Caesars and its parent company, Harrah's Entertainment. Dusk has an 800-person capacity that exceeds most others in the city, and was designed by the New York- and Los Angeles-based architectural firm ICrave Design to give it a sort of underwater ambience. The club should complement well The Pier Shops at Caesars, which was originally built with the intent to include a version of the popular Las Vegas-based nightclub Rumjungle, but that never materialized.

"Dusk is something completely different than anything you've seen before," DJ AM tells AC Weekly. "It's a beautiful, multi-layered nightclub with not one bad seat in the house, a warm, welcoming décor, and a sound system unlike any you've ever heard. Dark hues of blue, purple and gold give it this awesome, underwater vibe that I think people are going to be blown away by."

The club includes an undulating mesh ceiling with hundreds of spinning, rotating LED lights that keep beat with the music, and have projection capabilities that allow crowd shots to be depicted across the ceiling's three tiers. There are 30 VIP tables where bottle service is available, two DJ booths flanking two elevated stages at the center of the dance floor, and a "Funktion One" sound system that cranks out 100,000 watts of power. There are two bars on the club's main level, and a classic-looking lounge area called the Dawn Room equipped with its own bar, mahogany wood panels and granite-tiled floor. The Dawn Room is much more of a laid-back setting than the main club, and leads to an outdoor, enclosed smoking area right on the Boardwalk. Dusk also includes a ladies-only lounge and restroom that's more of a private sanctuary.

"I know you typically don't talk about restrooms when you're talking about a nightclub, but ours are aesthetically and functionally superior in every way," says Eric Millstein, vice president of Red Stripe Plane Group and former director of nightlife for the Borgata. "Attention to detail was not left out in the design of our restrooms."

That statement might apply to the rest of the establishment as well, which was completed in the course of six months. Caesars' commitment to the project was substantiated by the fact that it removed 185 slot machines to make room for Dusk's sizable queuing area. The club features a cryogenic cooling system that maintains a level temperature at all times through heat sensors.

"Caesars and the City of Atlantic City have both been nothing short of tremendous in helping us move forward," says Millstein. "The city officials bent over backwards to make sure our project got done in the timeframe we laid out. We did not want to do anything half way. If you walk into a nightclub and the service is poor, that's often something you'll never recover from. That's not going to happen here. This is good for Atlantic City -- I can't stress that enough."

The Philly-born DJ AM (real name Adam Goldstein) also co-owns a nightclub in Las Vegas called LAX, but says that owning a club close to the area in which he was raised has been a longtime ambition.

"It was a big factor -- I spent every summer till I was 13 in Margate, Ventnor and Longport, and it's always been a dream of mine to have my own club in a casino, especially one so close to where I'm from," says the 36-year-old. "I'm incredibly excited to be involved in such a unique project. From the design to the music, Dusk is in a league of its own. Once you spend an hour in there, you'll know why."

Dusk Never Sleeps

By Ray Schweibert

Pride abounded during Dusk’s guided tour and ribbon-cutting ceremony inside Caesars during the summer of 2009 — and with good reason.
The multi-tiered, 10,000-square-foot nightclub was cutting-edge to the core, more spacious and designed differently than anything Atlantic City had seen to that point, and bolstered by a top-flight lighting-and-sound system and some of the best house and special-guest DJs in the business.

DJ Sat-One: "The Atlantic City club scene is a very diverse and interchanging crowd due to that it is a vacation spot. It's great for a DJ because you're always playing for a new bunch of people each week who are just there to have a good time. Not too many places have that."
