Make a Wish

CAP: The band eleven eleven performing last June at Ri Ra in The Quarter at the Tropicana. --> Philadephia's eleven eleven is a familiar band in Atlantic City's weekend lineup. This high-energy cover crew includes Rich Franchetta (drums), Jeff Giuliani (lead vocals & guitar), Steve Martin (bass guitar), and Adam Torgun (lead guitar). The band simply took the common ritual "Its 11:11, make a wish" and turned it into their calling card.

In the early 1990s, eleven eleven formed and played original music influenced by bands such as the Cure and the Smiths. In 1998, the band's members realized that they could make some money by performing cover songs. They still love the original music that they play, but their ability to play covers makes the money. "We are a cover band because it's fun and our hearts are in it," says Giuliani. The band occasionally throws some originals in the mix. Currently the band is putting on a 1980s show, including songs by Bon Jovi and Billy Idol. -- Robyn Chadwick

You can rock out with eleven eleven every Thursday at Ri Ra's Irish Pub in The Quarter at the Tropicana from 11pm-3am. Every time that you go to see eleven eleven perform make a wish, it may come true. Check them out at their Web site: www.eleveneleven.com.

Good Brews & Bites

CAP: Danielle Ford performs karaoke with host Mike Maggio.

For over 21 years, W.L. Goodfellows and Co. has offered an inviting atmosphere and fine food. The restaurant, founded by brothers Jim and John Cicarelli, is warm and inviting, and it's not hard to have a good time there.

The Cicarelli family has been in the food industry for over 90 years. The family's members have founded and operated such illustrious food outlets as the San Georgio Pasta Company, Termini's Brothers Bakery and the popular Chick's Restaurant on the beach in Brigantine. After Chick's closed following the summer of 1984, the Cicarelli's founded W.L. Goodfellows and Co., creating a concept for a year-round casual restaurant and saloon. Last January marked the 20th anniversary of Goodfellows in Absecon.

Goodfellows' 60-seat bar features one of the largest micro brew beer selections on the East Coast. Eleven rotating seasonal micro brew drafts are poured from handcrafted Italian brass towers. The bar features more than 50 different brews in every possible brewing style from around the world.

The food is delicious, too. Try the Maryland lump crab cakes loaded with jumbo lump crabmeat and a blend of herbs and spices, Cajun pasta made with fresh garden vegetables and spices and outstanding sizzling fajitas.

For the past several years, Goodfellows has featured karaoke with the popular Mike Maggio every Wednesday from 8pm. Maggio is an accomplished singer who fills in when karaoke volunteers are scarce. Maggio gives you a full evening of entertainment. -- Steve Angelucci

W.L. Goodfellows is located at 310 White Horse Pike (Route 30) in Absecon. It's open Monday through Saturday from 11:30am and Sunday from 11am. Open to 2am on Fridays and Saturdays. Call 652-1942.
