Pull out the folding
chairs and fairy-tale books because the Ocean City Boardwalk will soon thud to the rhythm of the Miss New Jersey Pageant Parade.

This year’s theme is “Nursery Rhymes Travel the Boards” and the annual pageant’s 25 contestants will ride in convertibles dressed as famous nursery rhyme characters (Wednesday, June 13).

Pageant contestants will revive childhood memories as they portray imaginative characters like “Jack Be Nimble,” Humpty Dumpty,” “Three Blind Mice” and “Little Bo Peep.” Leading the parade will be the 2011 Miss New Jersey winner Katharyn Nicolle. The entertainment will begin at 7pm on Wednesday, June 13, at 6th Street on the Ocean City Boardwalk.

Along with the presence of the 2012 Miss New Jersey contestants, winners of previous Ocean City pageants will be a part of the parade action. Cassidy Diamond, Little Miss Ocean City, Kylie Clearkin, Junior Miss Ocean City and Brenna Carnucchio, Miss Ocean City, will share their pageant pride with smiles and waves on their own floats. There will also be several marching teams present that will drum up musical numbers to amuse beach- goers and spectators.

The pageant exposé continues with the pageant preliminaries on Thursday evening, June 14, and Friday, June 15, (both at 7:30pm). The Miss New Jersey Pageant finals take place on Saturday, June 16, at the Music Pier Auditorium. The program will feature dance, song and specialty numbers from the contestants and will be choreographed by Gabrielle Kadets. Reigning Miss New Jersey and Miss New Jersey Outstanding Teen, Amanda Ross, are expected to perform.

This year’s contestants hold various talents in vocal, dance, baton, piano, and sign language. The competitors’ platforms address social issues ranging from anti-bullying and volunteering to health awareness with regard to diseases such as diabetes and sickle-cell anemia.

Contestants for the 2012 Miss New Jersey are: Madison Alterman (Voorhees), Venessa Baez (Bloomfield), Courtney Charatsaris (Totowa), Ellen Chu (Park Ridge), Kayla Collymore (New Brunswick), Courtney Fairfield (Egg Harbor Township), Lindsey Giannini (Hammonton), Nychole Hunt (Scotch Plains), Olivia Jennings (Carney’s Point), Cierra Kaler-Jones (Galloway), Hilary Levin (Freehold), Chrystina Lewis (Pennsville), Samantha Mason (Vineland), Olivia Michael (Bergenfield), Krysten Moore (Mahwah), Angelica Nardi (Millville), Anna Negron (Vineland), Carissa Palumbo (Wayne), Lindsey Petrosh (Egg Harbor Township), Breanne Ray (Williamstown), Kaitlyn Schoeffel (Egg Harbor Township), Christine Skorenko (Eatontown), Lauren Talvacchio (Sewell), Jennifer Taylor (Millville) and Nicole Washington (Scotch Plains).

The winner of the pageant will receive an abundance of scholarships and will advance to the Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas 2013.

Former 1995 Miss New Jersey winner Dena (Querubin) Blizzard will return as the emcee for this year’s event. Dena is a respected stand-up comic and author (One Funny Mother) and is a part of Anderson Cooper’s Daytime show. Brian Shahwan will be co-hosting the pageant.
