Local punk accordion legend Malcolm Tent plays during the Rock the Boards 3 talent showcase Friday, June 24.
OCEAN CITY — Atlantic City isn’t the only spot for concert action this weekend as the Ocean City Pops start their summer season with a performance Sunday at the Music Pier with guest star Lucie Arnaz.
The Emmy award-winning stage and television star (and daughter of Lucille Ball and Dezi Arnaz) will present a cabaret show filled with song standards of yesterday and today.
Arnaz has had a long-standing and distinguished career as an actress, starting on her Mother’s show Here’s Lucy and performing frequently on stage and television. But Arnaz has also cut her chops on musical theater, including an award winning stint as Lucy Bowles in Cabaret and Daisy Mae in Lil’ Abner. Her nightclub tour has been a staple for years and Arnaz released her newest CD, Latin Roots, in 2010Fans can meet Arnaz at an after the concert beverage and dessert reception at the Flanders Hotel. Tickets are $25.
The concert starts at 7:30pm. Tickets are $25 and $20. Call 399-8408.
While Arnaz may be a veteran headliner, Friday, the Music Pier hosts “Rock the Boards 3,” a celebration of up-and-coming, unsigned rock bands.
This year’s lineup includes headliners and hosts Bound By Nothing and the groups Airways, End November, Sezhu, Stolen Rhodes and special guest Robin Renee.
The free concert celebrates some of the area’s freshest young rock talent. The show starts at 5pm at the Music Pier.
Also on tap for the weekend is a performance by the Philadelphia Boys Choir and Chorale at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, (8th and Central Avenue) at 7pm. Doors open for general seating at 6:30pm.
Tickets are $10, $15 at the door. Children 12 and under are free. Call 399-2988.
And mid-week, the Ocean Theater Co. presents an evening with Broadway star Robert Cuccioli in an exciting look at American Musical Theatre. Dubbed Broadway on the Boardwalk, the show will be at the Music Pier Wednesday, June 29, at 7:30pm. Tickets are $15.

Ocean City has been adroit at attracting tourists to the resort town in a number of quirky ways. This week it didn’t need to lift a finger to draw a large gathering, in a way it would probably prefer forgoing in the future.
“It really is the center of everything. Between the Ocean City Pops [which have called the pier home for 83 years] and the concerts, the flower shows and the fairs, and everything else people want to use it for, yeah, you’d have to say it’s the hub. It’s definitely booked solid.”
