It’s a weekend of music and flowers in Ocean City as the summer season has gotten off to a fantastic start due to some early Memorial Day beach weather.
The big event for the city is the annual O.C. Flower Show at the Music Pier Friday through Sunday. This year’s theme is dancing with the flowers. What’s that mean?
Well, the show will feature arrangements such as The Dancing Waters, Water Viewing, Dancing the Jitterbug, Disco Fever, Balinese Dance and Conga Line Dancers, just to name a few.
The free show also offers up competitions for all ages and levels and includes a plant sale. Hours are 2-9pm, Fri.; 10am-9pm, Sat. and 10am-4pm, Sun.
Another big event is Amnesty International’s 50th Anniversary celebration, which includes a musical program and speakers on June 5 at the Bayside Center, 5th and Bay Ave., from 1-7pm.
Along with several speakers on world events and Amnesty’s international fight for human rights, performers such as Gina Roché; Kickin’ Bear; 1,2,3 Draw; Resonation; It Reminds Me of Home; 3 South Benson; Backseat Riot and In Bad Taste will perform
The event will end with a drum circle. Bring your own drum as well as a beach chair.
And as always, the Ocean City Tabernacle offers a free Sunday concert at 7pm, this week featuring the New Jersey Master Chorale.
Flowers and music all free by the sea.

Ocean City has been adroit at attracting tourists to the resort town in a number of quirky ways. This week it didn’t need to lift a finger to draw a large gathering, in a way it would probably prefer forgoing in the future.
The 68-year-old Prior was more than a local star in the southern New Jersey area, especially in the family resort of Ocean City, Cape May County, where he was a constant on the scene for his Elvis Presley-inspired performances at the beach town resort's many special events.
An iron-man run of towering proportions has sadly come to an end, as Ted Prior, who’s been performing spot-on renditions of Elvis for more years than Elvis was alive, will be missing his first Ocean City First Night Celebration since the New Year’s Eve tradition began.
The Ocean City Baby Parade started in 1901 when 46 babies competed for cutest, prettiest and fattest baby. Guess people were less fitness crazed in 1901. Still, it’s a summer spectacle that Ocean City would repeat 99 times. This Thursday at 10:15am on the Boardwalk between the 6th and 12th sts., the city goes for an even 100.
