This is a new position for Temple, coming into the Atlantic 10 Tournament as the No. 1 seed. In the two previous years Temple was an underdog to regular-season champion Xavier, yet managed to take home the crown and the coveted automatic bid into the NCAA national championship. Looking for the three-peat, Temple has been consistent all year, including a big non-conference win over Villanova and has been ranked in the AP Top 25 for most of the year (No. 17 in the most recent poll). Fran Dunphy’s team concept has worked very well without a major star in his line-up.

With the early exits of the Eagles and Jets, and the failure of the Giants to get back into the playoffs, this year’s Super Bowl, to be played in Miami for the 10th time in its 44-year history on Sunday, Feb. 6 (6:25pm start on CBS), lacks any real local allure. Thus turning to some fascinating footnotes for all those who might not otherwise care who’s in it (i.e. those who didn’t make a wager, aren’t fans of halftime rock legends The Who, or couldn’t care less about what comical commercials might crop up during the breaks), here are a few to ponder.
