Sixers revive Boardwalk Classic game from 1982 and 1983 with a match vs. the Brooklyn Nets Oct. 13 in Atlantic City at Boardwalk Hall.

Atlantic City, like most of the Delaware Valley, calls the Philadelphia professional franchises their hometown teams. Sure there are a few holdouts who might follow the New York Giants, the Yankees and the Mets, but for the most part our region is home to diehard Philly fans who follow the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers and Sixers.
This loyalty is reflected in the fact that a pre-season game between the Sixers and the Brooklyn Nets is taking place this Saturday, Oct. 13, at Boardwalk Hall.
The president of the Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority, Jeffrey Vasser, is happy to be bringing this game to town. “We are excited to bring a Sixers pre-season game to Boardwalk Hall,” explains Vasser.
“This is something that we have been working on for awhile after we were approached by the team expressing an interest in playing in Atlantic City.
Dave Coskey, one of our ACCVA board members, helped by introducing the team to potential sponsors in Atlantic City which makes this a true community event. Bringing more sporting events to Boardwalk Hall has always been our goal as it brings many first-time visitors to Atlantic City who invariably come back to experience all we have to offer.”
The game will be the third time these two teams have met in a pre-season clash in Atlantic City. On Oct. 9, 1982, a 76ers squad led by coach Billy Cunningham and game-high scorer Darryl Dawkins beat the Nets 93-91. On Oct. 8, 1983, Moses Malone scored 19 points and Julius “Dr. J” Erving added 18 points to lead Philadelphia to a 117-113 overtime win.
While local fans were looking forward to seeing the Sixers biggest acquisition in the off-season, center Andrew Bynum, it was announced just before training camp began Oct. 2 that Bynum is being held back for three weeks to let his knee recover from a procedure he had in Germany. Sixers fans will therefore have to concentrate on watching the other significant new players, including projected starting shooting guard Jason Richardson. Will Dorell Wright make a major contribution as a versatile strong forward/small forward? Can guard Nick Young play defense as well as drain threes?
Training camp so far has shown that former Villanova guard Maalik Wayns might make the team, providing much needed speed off the bench. And fellow rookie Arnett Moultrie has been a solid rebounder.
Two out of the three times the Sixers have played the Nets in pre-season games in Atlantic City, the games have gone to overtime. Last night at Boardwalk Hall, Doug Collins’ team spent most of the game trying to come from behind and fell short in overtime, 108-105

“Hey, Sixers Fans, let's make that a "home" game for the 76ers and show up LARGE! :-) It's not televised, so to see it, you have to BE there! Way to go, Sixers and A.C. for coming up with this great idea! The Boardwalk hall is a great place to watch a basketball game! :-)”
