Casino’s push to cater to locals includes reasonable prices and happy hour specials

Atlantic Club COO Michael Frawley appreciates the stark contrast between his property, the smallest casino in town, and the new mega-resort Revel. While Revel hopes to cultivate new customers, Atlantic Club, which nearly had to close its doors last year, is hoping to change its fortunes by catering to local residents and other bargain-hunting consumers.
As part of this change in philosophy, the property has revamped its dining options to provide excellent food at prices we haven’t seen at casino eateries in decades. Gourmet entrees average between $15-$18 and casual dining entrees start at $5. The property has also instituted property-wide happy hours offering half-price appetizers and drinks from 5-7pm and from 10pm to midnight.
The restaurants at Atlantic Club include Patsy’s Trattoria (Italian), Simon AC (steak and seafood), BB’s (burger bar), The Coffee Shop (New York style deli) and Ono (Chinese cuisine and sushi).
Atlantic Club introduced its new prices and food with a press night Wednesday, April 4. At the event, Frawley noted, “We’ve chosen a niche in this market that is a viable part of this market and we’re going to be fiercely local to it. Revel opening is a great thing. They have their market. Metaphorically and physically we’re on the other side of the Boardwalk, the other side of the coin. We feel it was important to give our customers free parking, the best slot product that we can and the best food value. That is what we are going to stand on, and it is not a promotional come-on for us. It’s how we do business.”
Frawley also feels strongly that, “We have not sacrificed one ounce of quality, and in the process we are redefining what value means in the Atlantic City marketplace."
Atlantic Club Executive chef Ulrich Lohs explained that it took six months to plan the new menus and that it was a delicate balance finding the right blend of ingredients that could both please the palate and be sold at reasonable prices. So, no lobster tail, but you can still enjoy shrimp cocktail, filet mignon, crab cakes, a New Jersey clam bake, Patsy’s fabulous meatballs, terrific burgers, sushi, corned beef and pastrami at the various restaurants.
Sandra Bernhard’s career has had the ups and downs one might expect from her primary profession as a stand-up comic. Her career has also included professional singing (not just in her stand-up but with several albums and a hit dance single) and an acting career in movies that got off to a brilliant beginning in Martin Scorsese’s King of Comedy (1983).
The Atlantic Club Locals Plus program is devoted exclusively to local players. Locals Plus is the casino's way of giving you more of what you deserve — a great value, great rewards, and a great time.
