ATLANTIC CITY — An eclectic mix of performers is scheduled to appear at Golden Nugget’s newly remodeled showroom in March and April.

The acts include comedienne Paula Poundstone, who quickly became famous for her razor-sharp wit and spontaneity the late ’80s and, and a trio of famous hit-makers — The Platters, Cornell Gunter’s Coasters, and The Marvelettes.

Poundstone appears at Golden Nugget on Saturday, March 3, and the classic trilogy will make four appearances the following weekend, Friday through Sunday, March 9-11.

The Los Angeles-based, seven-man band Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, which materialized in the early 1990s and fuses classic American sounds from jazz, swing, Dixieland and big-band sounds, will perform April 14. The Pink Floyd tribute band The Machine takes the Golden Nugget stage April 28.
Tickets for all headliners are now on sale and can be purchased by calling 866-746-9336 or by clicking here. Bios for all the acts are below.

Paula Poundstone — Appearing on stage with a stool, a microphone, and a can of Diet Pepsi, Poundstone (below right) “improvises with a crowd like a Jazz musician … swinging in unexpected directions without a plan, without a net,” according to a review by the Boston Globe. A former winner of the American Comedy Award for Best Female Stand-Up Comic, Poundstone will appear at the Showroom on Saturday, March 3, at 8pm.

The Platters, Cornell Gunter’s Coasters and The Marvelettes — Together responsible for over 30 million-selling songs (among them “My Prayer,” “Please Mr. Postman,” “Charlie Brown,” “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes,” and “Yakety Yak”) these pioneering groups span the spectrum of classic rock ‘n’ roll. The Platters are, according to a media release, “the consummate purveyors of the power-ballad love song with enchanting harmonies.” The Cornell Gunter Coasters “represent raucous, comedy-oriented song stylings with smooth, synchronized choreography,” and The Marvelettes are known for their Motown sound “while encompassing stirring anthems craftily interwoven with high intensity, upbeat rhythms.” These rock ‘n’ roll legends will perform a series of shows together on Friday, March 9 at 9pm; Saturday, March 10, at 6pm and 9pm; and Sunday, March 11, at 2pm.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy — Since its arrival on the in 1993 at a legendary Los Angeles club called the Brown Derby nightclub, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy stood out among several other bands that launched a 1990s swing revival. Sixteen years later the group is a veteran force that adds new fans by the roomful every time they play. At Golden Nugget, that will be on Saturday, April 14, at 8pm.

The Machine — America’s top Pink Floyd tribute band continues the legacy of the original Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Famers from England while creating another legacy all their own. Over the years, The Machine “has touched the hearts and souls of many, selling out theaters, large clubs and casinos across North and Central America, Europe and Asia.” The New York-based band focuses on making every show an authentic Floydian experience for their fans, performing a diverse mix of Floyd’s extensive 16-album repertoire as well as some more obscure gems, “with stellar musicianship, dramatic lighting and video, and a passionate delivery.” The Machine performs in the Showroom Saturday, April 28, at 9pm.

Of all the British rock bands born in the 1960s that reached mega-stardom status, it’s probable that Pink Floyd poured more energy than most into not only a unique, psychedelic sound but also a visual stage presence.

Super Salute to the Platters
By Jerry Blavat

Greetings and salutations. What can I tell you about our 21st show at the Kimmel Center? Again, a complete sellout. But more important, everyone raved about the combination of Darlene Love on stage with Freda Payne. The salute to the Platters was unbelievable, with a 22-piece orchestra backing them up on all of their classic hits, and of course the Duprees, Kenny Vance & the Planotones, and the Soul Survivors — all proven stars time and time again. And you won’t want to miss the next one. It’s a special “Gift of Music on Mother’s Day.” Stay tuned for the lineup. But get your tickets in advance, because this will surely be another sellout. Call 215-893-1999 or go online at kimmelcenter.org. Now let’s ask the Geator. First, a trivia question for Oscar season: Who was the first host of Academy Awards? Answer below. I used to come to Wagner’s and Chez Vous. Whatever happened to the Nixon brothers? Thanks for the memories — Nancy When we began doing hops in the early ’60s, Bobby and Eddie Nixon were among the earliest kids who followed the Geator everywhere — not only to the Chez Vous, Wagner’s and Atlantic City, but also when...
