When folks in Atlantic City talk about a trip to the White House, they are not talking about an excursion to our nation's capital, they are talking about the fabulous sub shop. Guy Fieri has sung the praises of the White House and so have many other famous chefs and celebrities who have the subs flown around the globe.

Now the iconic, world famous sandwich shop will have a second location in Atlantic City. Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort has announced that they have signed an agreement to open an outpost of the White House Sub Shop in its Spice Road dining section in the Taj in early spring 2011. The Taj Mahal location will be the restaurant’s first venture outside of their original location on the corner of Mississippi and Arctic Avenues, in Ducktown.

The White House Sub Shop is an Atlantic City dining icon that first opened its doors in 1946, owned by Anthony Basile, along with his aunt and uncle Basilia and Fritz Sacco, and is still run by the same families today. The White House Sub Shop has become world-famous for their Italian (or “Regular”) and cheesesteak subs, as well as over two dozen additional varieties. People from all over the country come to Atlantic City to visit the White House Sub Shop, often waiting in long lines to purchase these tasty sandwiches made with only the highest quality ingredients and served on Atlantic City-style Italian bread baked at Formica’s Bakery down the block.

The walls of the White House Sub Shop are adorned with photos of over hundreds of celebrities who have dined there, including The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Oprah Winfrey, Bill Cosby, Joe DiMaggio and many more.

“The White House Sub Shop is an Atlantic City favorite,” says Mark Juliano, CEO, Trump Entertainment Resorts. “We are all excited to have this opportunity to bring this venue in to share with our guests and give them a taste of Atlantic City’s history and world-famous subs.” Juliano added.

“My husband and I think this is fabulous. We get a White House sub almost every time we vist A.C., either to eat there or to take along home. We live in PA. We've taken many friends there as well to be able to experience those subs and everyone of them continue to go back. We are thrilled to know that one of the shops will now be on the boardwalk! Great news.”

“The best subs IN THE WORLD!!! However, by openning a second location; it looses the whole finness and uniqueness....before you know it, it will become like Blimpie, or quiznoes...THEY SHOULD JUST KEEP IT AS IT HAS BEEN FOR OVER 64 YEARS!!! after all; there is only ONE White House!”
