The world beat superstar Gipsy Kings come to Harrah's for a performance on Friday, April 19, 9pm. Tickets are $50 and up.
The Gipsy Kings consist of two bands of brothers: the Reyes (Nicolas, Canut, Paul, Patchai, Andre) and the Baliardos (Tonino, Paco, Diego). The Reyes and Baliardo boys were the offspring of Spanish gypsy families that had fled into France to escape Spain’s Civil War. They grew up roaming the south of France, working harvests and making music.
Since the phenomenal debut of the Gipsy Kings in 1988 (Top ten in over a dozen countries, receiving fifteen gold and platinum records), their ensuing albums — Mosaique, Allegria, Este Mundo, Gipsy Kings Live, and Love & Liberté; — have provided a steady fuel of hits to Billboard’s World Music, Latin, and Top 200 charts.
The Gipsy Kings were Billboard’s No. 1 charting World Music Artist and No. 1 Latin Artist of 1994. The 1995 release, The Best of the Gipsy Kings, made them stars in the United States when the album achieved platinum status.
