The Flaming Lips, appearing in the Dave Matthews Caravan event, will sneak into town a day early for a concert at the Music Hall, Thursday, June 23, at 9pm. Tickets are $42.25 and $49.75.
The Flaming Lips began in Oklahoma in 1983 with core members Wayne Coyne (guitar, vocals) and Michael Irvins (bass). After a decade of revolving drummers, self-released albums and underground cult status, the bizarre band had its major label debut in 1992 with Hit to Death in the Future Head, but it was in 1993 as a foursome that the band’s Transmissions From a Satellite Heart and touring in Lollapalooza brought them above ground for a time. The All-Music Guide says about the Lips, “An acid-bubblegum band with as much affinity for sweet melodies as blistering noise assaults, their off-kilter sound, uncommon emotional depth, and bizarre history firmly established them as true originals.”
The band’s latest album is Embryonic.
