Dimitrios and Katerina Dounoulis

Address: 6814 Tilton Rd. EHT (677-5477) and 3015 Brigantine Blvd., Brigantine (264-8801)

Hours: Open daily from 8am-9pm in EHT, and from 7am-11pm in Brigantine. Lunch and early-bird dinner specials are offered daily.

History: Dimitrios Dounoulis, affectionately referred to as “Jimmy the Greek,” opened the Macedonian Grill’s first location in 2005 in Brigantine, with an expansive menu in mind. He added the EHT location earlier this year. As a father of five, he understood the need for a restaurant that could satisfy everyone’s tastes and planned his own establishments accordingly, noting that he wanted his menu to “cover all of the bases.”

What to Know: The Macedonian Grill’s Mediterranean/American fusion motif highlights several unique items that call on “South Philly” favorites and steep them in the restaurant’s Greek heritage. Mediterranean dishes include moussaka (a cooked salad of tomatoes and eggplant) and stuffed grape leaves. There are also eclectic options like “disco fries” and “salmon burgers,” and all the traditional American fare. There are also children’s platters, weight-conscious options, and plenty of desserts.

Chef’s Favorite: Thessaloniki’s Way — a seafood platter of jumbo shrimp and scallops sautéed in olive oil, fresh tomatoes, feta cheese and capers in a white wine sauce. Atypical of most eateries, every item on the Macedonian Grill menu is homemade and made to order. If you are unable to find an item to appease your palate, the restaurant will fill custom orders. Take-out and delivery is also available.
