History: Mike DeLuca previously owned DeLuca’s Diner, a hugely popular pizzeria located in Margate, for seven years before recently opening the Somers Point Café. He closed the diner and opened the café because he wanted to have an establishment open year round instead of operating only seasonally. He chose Somers Point as a location because of what customers had told him while in Margate and because it is also where DeLuca calls home. “Customers had told me while at DeLuca’s that they needed a place like the diner offshore,” says DeLuca. “So we brought the same concept over here to Somers Point.”

What to Know: The venue, which also offers catering and delivery services, has a warm atmosphere as well as great prices with 90 percent of the dinner selections under $10. Everything is fresh, homemade, never frozen and great specials are offered during the week. On Wednesday, all-you-can-eat pasta — with four different sauces and four different pasta choices — is offered for $7.95, while Mon.-Fri. from 11am to 5pm, all-you-can-eat soup and salad with Italian bread is just $5.95. Although the cafe has only been open for about two months, DeLuca has received a warm welcome from new customers and loyal followers alike. “It is a place where you can have a good family dinner,” explains DeLuca. “The atmosphere and ambiance is nice for a dinner setting. It’s very warm, not too extravagant. [It’s] not your average pizzeria or coffee shop.”

Owner’s Tip: Mike recommends the Salmon Florentine, an enormously popular dinner special that comes with a beverage, choice of soup or salad, and dessert for $13.95 on the weekends.
