Celebrate the 90th birthday of faithful Absecon Lighthouse volunteer Buddy Grover Sunday, Sept. 24, with spirits, cake and climbs.

A native to the city, Grover has been a volunteer lightkeeper from atop the historic landmark since 2009, always eager to answer questions and give away his knowledge of the lighthouse. To celebrate his big day, the public is invited to enter a Facebook contest, taking place up until the event on Sunday.

Take a picture with Grover after climbing the lighthouse stairs and then post it to the lighthouse’s Facebook page. Winners will be announced at the party, taking place from 4 to 6 p.m. and including drinks, birthday cake, climbs, and live music by Hildy & the Peptones. Prizes will be awarded to the winners, consisting of certificates to area restaurants valued from $35 to $100.

Instead of presents, Grover has asked that donations be made to the lighthouse, located at 31 S. Rhode Island Ave., Atlantic City. Climbs are $7 adults, $5 seniors, and $4 kids ages 4 to 12. For more information, go to AbseconLighthouse.org.
