Chocolate is the theme of the evening during the third annual Foodie Film Festival, presented by the Somers Point Arts Commission Friday and Saturday, Oct. 6 and 7 inside the Park Room at Greate Bay Country Club.

Friday begins the festivities with a showing of “Chocolat” (PG-13). The Press of A.C.’s Director of Entertainment Scott Cronick will present the film at 6:45 p.m., and then lead a brief discussion following the movie. “Chocolat,” released in 2000 and nominated for five Academy Awards, stars Juliette Binoche, who plays a young mother opening a chocolate shop in a very traditional French village just in time for Lent, when most of the villagers have given up the tasty temptation for the holiday.

Then Saturday, “Like Water for Chocolate” (R) will be shown. This dramatic foreign language film, based on the 1989 novel by Laura Esquivel, is a tale of forbidden love mixed with some fantasy elements, including magical cooking that casts a spell upon those who consume the food.

Both films will start promptly at 7 p.m. Before the movie showings, come early for a dinner seating, starting at 5 p.m. (Not included in movie price). Order from a light menu provided by Greate Bay or purchase a drink from the bar. Even if you don’t come for the dinner, included in your ticket purchase is the option for either a chocolate cocktail or chocolate-filled dessert, so you’ll still get a treat.

Admission is $15 and supports the Somers Point Art Commission’s 2018 Programs, promoting arts in the area. The commission, formed in 2013, hosts events throughout the year such as the annual Art in the Park show. Attendees are welcome to make additional donations to the organization at the door.

Tickets will be available for purchase at the door as long as seating is available. Make sure to call in your reservation beforehand. Greate Bay Country Club is located at 901 Mays Landing Road. Reservations can be made by calling 609-653-4991 or emailing katharleth@hotmail.com.
