Book Signing, Tribute to Red Klotz

An event held Thursday afternoon at Steve & Cookie’s in Margate featured a tribute to the renowned Red Klotz and a book signing by author Tim Kelly, who recently released his biography entitled 'The Legend of Red Klotz: How Basketball’s Loss Leader Won Over the World — 14,000 Times.' The gathering was also attended by three-time NBA champion and area resident Chris Ford (who, like Klotz, played his college ball at Villanova University) and other local luminaries.
Klotz, now 92, and his wife Gloria have been Margate residents for over 50 years. Klotz was a star player for every team he competed for from high school through the professional ranks, but is best known as the owner and former player/coach of the Washington Generals, the team that has lost to the Harlem Globetrotters over 14,000 times (with their only win coming in 1971, decided by a last-second shot by Klotz).
