The General Hospital star talks about entertaining fans as part of the band Port Chuck
Bradford Anderson
Bradford Anderson is best known to his fans in the soap opera world as lovable computer geek Damian Spinelli on General Hospital. However when fellow GH co-star Steve Burton wanted to liven up the fan events the cast attends, a musical group, Port Chuck, was created, featuring a hot band fronted by Burton (who plays Jason Morgan on General Hospital), Brandon Barash (Johnny Zacchara), Anderson and Scott Reeves (Steven Webber). Reeves is the veteran professional musician of the group, having performed in Nashville as part of the duo Blue County.
Port Chuck will be performing this Saturday, 10pm, at Bally’s Traymore Ballroom ($35, $55, $75) as part of a Soap Opera Weekend at Bally’s. Anderson chatted with Atlantic City Weekly to give us the scoop on Port Chuck.
How did this group first get together?
We would travel with Steve Burton to do appearances [for fans] and he liked to provide entertainment, not just a simple Q&A. Then Steve’s friend Scott Reeves joined General Hospital and he had a great level of success in Nashville. Steve knew I trained in musical theater and I’d made a living singing for a while, and our other co-star, Brandon Barash, also has musical ability. We’re guys that like to hang out together. And we thought, we could start a band, with Scott’s talent and our talent and we’d be pretty good. That is how it started. We loved to travel and we thought that if we could make more of a show of it, it would be more fun for us and more fun for the fans.
So tell us about the band and the type of music you play.
The four of us are basically front men. Scott has friends that are incredible musicians so we have an incredible band. With the exception of Scott, who plays acoustic guitar, we don’t play any instruments, although Brandon plays harmonica on some songs. It is a pretty good failsafe, having seasoned, immaculate musicians behind us. Our level of responsibility is to hit our notes and be entertaining to the crowd and have a good time. We do cover tunes from the ’70s to today. We do a lot of ’80s music, we do classic rock. I’m kind of all over the place. Steve likes my voice so he has me do “Don’t Stop Believing,” and I sing a Scorpion song and a Stray Cat song, Steve does Linkin Park and we do our own version of “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” And there is always a Bon Jovi song in there somewhere.
What are the audience favorites and what is your favorite song to perform?
To be certain, the international vocal group Il Divo was hardly the music world’s first “manufactured” ensemble. The movie studio Screen Gems created The Monkees in 1965. Of more recent vintage, now-imprisoned music producer Lou Pearlman organized the Backstreet Boys and ‘N Sync in the mid-1990s.
