Stephanopoulos played pros Annie Duke and Phil Helmuth in Atlantic City as part of Good Morning America's 'Living The Dream' segment to air Wednesday, May 5.
George Stephanopoulos
George Stephanopoulos, of ABC’s Good Morning America, will be seen taking in a little Atlantic City poker action at Harrah’s Resort next week, facing off with a some of the biggest names in poker. The spot is scheduled to air Wednesday, May 5, on the popular morning news show as part of the show’s “Living the Dream” segment, which allows each GMA anchor to live out a specific dream. The segment was filmed Thursday.
First up, Stephanopoulos got some poker pointers from popular pro Annie Duke, who is teaching a World Series of Poker Academy at Harrah’s Saturday through Monday. Then, according to ABC, Stephanopoulos faced off against Duke, poker bad boy Phil Helmuth, poker pro Steven Beigletter (who made the final table at last year’s WSOP) and poker pro Jason "Jaspuduf" Lee in a special game (Just a note, ABC seems to have confused Lee with actor Jason Lee on the GMA website, but it's probably the poker pro).
Poker commentator Ali Nejad will provide play by play of the game.
Duke provided instruction at the WSOP Academy this weekend at Harrah’s, her academy teaching debut, and the casino has recently announced a partnership with Duke that includes several appearances at the casino this year. She is scheduled to appear at Harrah’s Resort May 21-22 during the casino’s WSOP Circuit event next month. Harrah’s Entertainment runs the World Series, which begins, May 28 in Las Vegas. On Monday, Duke is scheduled to teach a special hand analysis class to Academy graduates at Harrah's.
Stephanopoulos did not make a public appearance at the casino and media outlets did not attend the game. Since poker isn’t always a very speedy game, there wasn't much chance the segment could be shown live. GMA personalities Bill Weir, Sam Champion, Juja Chang and Robin Roberts also have segments “living their dreams.” You can check out ABCnews.go.com/GMA for details.
Update: Annie Duke talked to Poker News Daily about the segment saying “I was very excited to get to teach poker. With some of the attacks on poker that have happened, it’s nice that George is politically savvy. When he was asked what he wanted to cross off his bucket list, he answered poker.”

“Not Jason Lee the actor, Jason "JaspudUF" Lee the poker player. You might want to correct that.”

“i was in the Harrah's poker room yesterday while this was going on, it was really cool. Apparently Harrah's custom-made the multi-camera table for this, it was just like Vegas and the final table. I saw Ali in the casino later - did anyone see Annie or Phil floating around later on?”
