Frankie Avalon

Greetings and salutations. Hope you had a blessed Christmas with family and friends, and now, as we celebrate the coming new year, a healthy, prosperous, and happy 2011 to one and all. And we’ll celebrate New Year’s Eve together at the Trump Taj Mahal. Don’t know if any more tickets are available as I write this, but call the box office at 449-5150 to find out about that and other events at the Trump properties. The big news for the New Year — the Geator returns to KOOL 98.3 weekdays from 5-7pm over the Geator Gold Radio Network. We’ll start in the next few weeks. But now, time for your questions.

My zaida (grandfather) was Sam Cohen, the owner of Sam’s Clothing at 7th and Snyder. Did you know him? We lived in the house next to the store for a few years when I was 8 or 9. — Usinc

I certainly did. Your grandfather’s store was Boyd’s before its time and before Krass Brothers became the “store of the stars.” All of the entertainers from South Philly, he took care of, and they loved him, including myself.

Still waiting for that meatball and macaroni recipe dish you and Frankie Avalon talked about. — JR

For the meatballs, it’s a combination of veal, pork, and beef, two egg yolks, hard Italian bread soaked in water or milk, using only the insides of the bread, fresh parsley, basil, and a handful of locatelli, parmesan, and romano cheese. Mix this all together, form balls with your hands, fry in a pan with olive oil and garlic, turning the meatballs around until brown and crispy all over. Take them out of the pan, combine the ingredients for your gravy, put the meatballs in the gravy, and let them simmer while the gravy cooks.

Hello! Is there a Web site where we can find out your functions and dances that are coming up in the next months?

— Robyn and Rich Musto, Pitman, N.J.

Sure is. Go to geator.net, which has a calendar of my appearances, a section about learning the Geator Gold dance steps, and soon will have a section devoted to frequently asked questions.

I saw Brian Wilson on The Tonight Show. He has a new album of Gershwin arrangements that he updated as only he could. Any chance you can get him at the Kimmel, either on the bill or on his own? What a genius! — Our gal Sal, Eileen Blessington

Brian, who lives on the West Coast, very rarely makes appearances on the East Coast unless it’s a part of an organized tour. Our bookings at the Kimmel Center are individual dates not connected with any tours. But Brian is a fan of the Geator’s, and if the opportunity ever arises, we’ll certainly talk to him about it.

Got a question for Jerry? Send it to AskTheGeator@acweekly.com or Geator Gold Radio, 626 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106. For more info on Jerry’s appearances, go to www.geator.net — and keep on rocking, ’cause you only rock once!

The Fourth Monkee

ONCE AGAIN, greetings and salutations. Hard to believe — tomorrow is April 1 and the opening of baseball season. The Geator’s prediction? The Phillies are going all the way. Also going all the way are the tickets for our Kimmel Center show May 8, Mother’s Day. I guess because everybody wants to give the gift of love to their moms, they’re giving that along with the gift of music. Hope to see you there. Now let’s ask the Geator. I read here in the Weekly that Kenny Vance and Jay Black are on the bill at your next show at the Kimmel Center. Will you have them perform together like they did when they were with Jay & the Americans? — Gil D. Absolutely....
