Nancy Schafer, the director of the world-renowned Tribeca Film Festival in New York, sees the Tribeca Cinema Series as “a great way to showcase a wide range of independent films to a new audience in an enchanting venue.” Schafer adds, “We are eager to continue working with Caesars Atlantic City to bring quality independent films to this beachside resort.” Read much more about the series, incuding details and trailers from the films here. — Jeff Schwachter
Hot Licks and Baby Backs
What’s a little cool jazz without some hot BBQ on the side? OK, maybe we’re stretching a little to get the hot vs. cool thing going, but how else can you describe this weekend in North Wildwood, which features the annual Anglesea Blues Festival and the NJ State Barbecue Championships in the same place (at 2nd & Olde New Jersey Avenue) at the same time? That means they’ll be sizzling in the BBQ pits as well as on stage. You know, heating up the place with hot licks and baby backs. All right, stopping now. The two events, however, make for a one-of-a-kind festival. “This year, the line-up promises to be the best blues festival the city has ever hosted,” boasts North Wildwood Mayor Bill Henfey. This year’s lineup includes the Sean Chambers Band on Friday, Frank Bey and the Swing City Blues Band on Saturday and Grant Austin Taylor on Sunday. Go to angleseablues.com for the full schedule. Meanwhile, the BBQ championship includes several best-contests and the overall championship on Sunday. Go to njbbq.com for info. Both festivals take place Friday through Sunday. It’s gonna be smokin’ (had to go for one more). — Mike Pritchard
Jakob Dylan
‘Women and Country’
Although Jakob Dylan’s July 8 show at the House of Blues was scrapped, local fans did receive something positive with Dylan’s latest album, which was produced by T-Bone Burnett and features guest spots from singers Neko Case and Kelly Hogan. Must-listens: “Everybody’s Hurting” and “Nothing But the Whole Wide World.”
Lady Gaga made national headlines after her July 4 concert in Atlantic City at Boardwalk Hall. The show was sponsored by the Borgata.
