The two venues operated by Boston-based Lyons Group closed their doors days before a possible auction date is set for the entire property.
ATLANTIC CITY — Last year came the news that Taubman Centers Inc., the principal owner of The Pier Shops at Caesars, was unable to make payments on a $135 million loan to Bank of America Corp. and would be going into default.
A federal judge decided in April that the bank could foreclose on the upscale shopping complex, which opened to much fanfare in 2006, but Bank of America has yet to schedule a foreclosure sale on the four-level property constructed five years ago on a 900-foot pier overlooking the ocean, and featuring about 75 high-end retail shops and restaurants.
It was reported in error that the auction date for the property would be Sept. 28. Attorneys working on the case say that date was wrong and that the actual auction date could be determined as soon as this week.
More bad news befell The Pier Shops on Monday — Labor Day 2011 — as two restaurants abruptly closed their doors, presumably forever — Game On! sports bar (pictured right) and the Trinity Irish Pub & Carvery.
Employees showed up for work Monday, Sept. 5, it was reported, only to find the doors to both establishments closed. Both restaurants were part of the Boston-based Lyons Group that opened three original businesses at The Pier Shops at Caesars in 2006. Among them was Sonsie, a European bistro that closed for good last summer.
'Penthouse' publisher Bob Guccione never achieved the full notoriety of his contemporaries in the skin magazine trade, but still loomed as a controversial figure with his publication, which was much more hardcore than Hugh Hefner’s 'Playboy,' but much tamer than Larry Flynt’s 'Hustler.'
“It was like, ‘Oh my god, we might lost $20,000 or $30,000 on an event.’ Well, you might lose hundreds of millions of dollars if this town just continues to play defense. And we’re trying to play offense. [The city] has already lost a billion dollars it can never get back.”
Where in America will you find a magnificent special-events center a quarter of a mile out over an ocean? Ride the elevator or escalator to the fourth level of The Pier Shops at Caesars, and when you arrive at One Atlantic you will find a charming facility that offers a beautiful view of the New Jersey shoreline and the crashing waves of the Atlantic Ocean.
Godard will meet and greet fans, sign artwork, and create original artwork during his appearances, which will be from 5-9pm Saturday and noon-3pm Sunday. Collectors are invited to meet the renowned artist who paved his own way to fame.
