Once again, greetings and salutations. And Memories is hotter than ever, nothing but stars. Last week saw the return of Jeff Orleans, Fred and Irene Shabel’s favorite pharmacist, Mary-Mary, and, of course, our favorite crew. Chris the attorney with his ever faithful sidekick Willie Jacovini returned to party and sashay the ladies throughout the night. Also returning to the fold, South Philly’s favorite bartender, Nigel — yep, he’s back in town. Our favorite Congressman, Bob Brady, made a pit stop on Friday night before heading on down to Wildwood for the Brady Bunch bash. And how about the Three Amigos, Anthony, Sean, and Justin, along with Cannulo Sausages’ John and Adrian with his squeeze, Angel, applauding as the Amigos’ dad, Ray, took to the dance floor? And my man Nick, along with the Mighty Quinn and the kids from downtown, partied to the sounds of Barry White.

As the summer wears on, I find we’re getting more New Yorkers picking up on the magic of Memories, with pleas to the Geator of “Do it in New York! Do it in New York!” Unfortunately my plate is full, especially now with all the personal appearances and interviews with the release of our book, You Only Rock Once. Special thanks to Jonathan Takiff from the Daily News and A.D. Amorosi of the Inquirer for the fabulous reviews, and, of course, to the great Larry Kane of CN8, who had the Geator on his show, Voice of Reason, and wants us back for a return chat. And watch for the Geator talking about the book on Fox TV’s Good Day Philadelphia this Monday, Aug. 8, at 9:15am. But now, let’s ask the Geator right here in Atlantic City Weekly.

I heard a rumor that Johnny Depp is going to play the Lone Ranger in a movie. Is this true?
— Lilla, Boynton Beach, Fla.

Almost true — he will play Tonto, and Armie Hammer, who is 6 feet 5 inches tall, will play the Lone Ranger. Very interesting — I’m a big fan of Johnny Depp, and I would like to see his portrayal of Tonto. In the original movie and in the TV series we never knew what Native American Indian tribe Tonto belonged to. Maybe in this one, we’ll finally find out.

What is the disco song you play where they go “Say whaaaaat?” You said it was produced by Bunny Sigler. — Jace Janiero, Cape May

The song is called “Got My Mind Made Up” by Instant Funk, a group who started out backing up artists like Archie Bell & the Drells, the Manhattans, Lou Rawls, the O’Jays, Curtis Mayfield, and Evelyn Champagne King (they did backup on her hit “Shame”). Bunny was an important creative part of the group and also sang lead vocals. “Got My Mind Made Up” became a huge club hit in New York and was No. 1 on the R&B and disco charts. The group eventually disbanded, and Bunny went on to perform as part of the new Trammps.

We had a great time at Memories Friday and by the way the food is on the money! Thank you for autographing my album Memories II Live. Where can I get Memories I? — Ralph Warzy, Exton, Pa.

Well, you could call Val Shively, 610-352-2320, or Bobby at Pat’s Music, 215-708-0444. Or maybe as my next project I’ll re-release both volumes of Memories Live on CD so I can make it easy for you and all the folks who’ve been asking for these albums.
