Once again, greetings and salutations. Hard to believe that Labor Day is just around the corner. And yet Memories is still the hottest spot to see and be seen. Nothing but stars — last weekend, no exception. My favorite doctor, A.J. DiMarino, and his lovely Dottie danced the night away, as did Peter DePaul and his wife, Nevis, along with Senator Hank Salvatore and his wife, Gloria.
Last weekend also saw a big birthday bash for one of my favorite ladies, Gary and Geno Barbera’s mom, Rita. And it got better. Saturday night, lots of big birthday parties for the kids from Trenton, including my pal Pez and his lovely Michelle. Of course, Dawn and Joe Ranieri danced the night away, as did my old buddy Jim Allen, who came back in town to experience the magic of Memories.
As you know, Jim, who heads up the Hard Rock casinos, will be doing his thing very shortly in A.C. And yes, it even gets better. As a matter of fact, this Sunday, Aug. 21, will be a very special night at Memories. Johnny Rivers will be doing his thing in Margate, and we will have International Night. Our doors will open up at 4pm, with a salute to Marianna and one of my favorite restaurants, Positano Coast, run by the famous Aldo Lamberti.
So with Labor Day just weeks away, if you haven’t experienced the magic of Memories, the hottest adult dance club in South Jersey, make plans to join us this weekend or before the summer ends. And look for yours truly to make another appearance on Larry Kane’s TV show next Thursday, Aug. 25, as we again talk about the summer bestseller, You Only Rock Once. We’ll give you the air date next week. Well, that’s it — nothing but stars. Now, let’s ask the Geator.
I have heard you play a song that goes, “Just because of you, I’m a happy guy, you’re the reason why. ”I think it might be the Dells? — Carole, via e-mail
Great song! “You’re the Reason Why” is by a Camden group called the Ebonys, who were picked up by Gamble and Huff and recorded for Philly International, which is why it sounds like the Dells and perhaps even the Delfonics.
I see your influence all over Bruce Springsteen. Did he ever acknowledge that influence publicly? — Paul T. Bennethum, Yorktown, Va.
When Bruce first started, he would sometimes visit and watch me work at Memories in Margate. If you have the Memories Live album, Volume 1, there is a picture of us on the cover. My pal Jimmy Ricciotti remembers, “Bruce was a frequent visitor to Memories ‘back in the day.’ In the original Memories we had a picture of Geator and Bruce hanging on the wall way before anyone knew who he was. I can remember Jerry telling us that someday this guy is going to be a star.” I see Bruce periodically when I’m at the induction dinners for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and we chat about the old days. He’s a great fan of rhythm & blues and rock & roll.
I need to know the name of the dance show you did in the ’80s from a club call DJs. I was on it. You did two shows in one night. — Joyce Mitchell, Bristol, Pa.
The name of the show was The DJ, and the club called DJ’s was a perfect fit — the deejay at DJ’s. It was right off Roosevelt Boulevard at Grant.
Got a question for Jerry? Send it to AskTheGeator@acweekly.com or Geator Gold Radio, 626 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106. For more info on Jerry’s appearances, go to www.geator.net — and keep on rocking, ’cause you only rock once!

“Hi Jerry,
I wanted to ask you about a new iradiophilly internet radio. I was wondering if you are involved with a new internet radio station. I have the app for my Iphone and have the Bandstand station on and it sounds like alot of the music the you would play(minus the 50's dooWop). I was just wondering. If you has a hand in it we are very lucky to be following a great music icon like you.
Not sure if you are going to be at the Borgata this weekend for Frankie Valli but, I will see you there. I am reading your book and I am enjoying it.
I may have it with me this weeked and maybe if you were inclined you can sign it for me.
You only rock once..
Sharon”
