Val Lauren
Once again, greetings and salutations — and another fabulous weekend down at the shore. Don’t have to tell you how we kick it off. Friday nights from 5 to 7 at Chickie’s & Pete’s in Egg Harbor Township. Then, starting at 9, live on KOOL 98.3, the hottest Friday night dance party at the Pool Bar on the fourth floor of Caesars in Atlantic City.
I must tell you, if you have not been there, you’ll flip. Folks from all over, when visiting Caesars, marvel at the way our Philly and South Jersey dancers party. Last Friday saw the return of Charlotte and Ray, Cookie and Eddie, Bob and Jeanette, Janice and Steve, plus some visitors from the Big Apple who danced all night with the Geator. This is truly the only way to kick off your weekend at the shore. Dine first at Mia, then dance the night away under the stars at the Pool Bar in the Ocean Tower at Caesars. You’ve got to experience it to understand what the Geator is talking about. Hats off to Don Marrandino, staff and management for creating a unique party spot for summertime fun at the shore.
After that, it’s on to Memories in Margate. This weekend: the fabulous Magdalena, whose mom was one of the original partying people at Memories, celebrated graduating from NYU. Magdalena junior is a clone of her mom, and family and friends party the same way that her mom and dad did 35 years ago at Memories.
A very Happy Father’s Day in advance to all the dads out there. And remember, Memories is open Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with me doing my dance party Saturday nights on KOOL 98.3, DJ Perry Angelozzi Thursday and Sunday nights, and DJ Joey Marini Friday nights. And now, let’s ask the Geator.
Any way you could help me remember the title or recording stars to one of the best songs ever? The lyrics went like, “You can have your fun if you want to. You can run around if you want to” and sung in falsetto. Please! — Mr. Laden Taught Kindergarten
The title is “If You Want To” by the Carousels, and it is on the original For Lovers Only album and CD. The lead is actually a female, Elizabeth Jackson. Great song, great group, but unfortunately one of the one-hit wonders.
I understand that James Franco is going to play Sal Mineo in a new movie. Didn’t he already play James Dean on TV? — Maria
He did, and he got a Golden Globe for it. But he isn’t starring in Sal, he’s directing it. He personally chose the star, Val Lauren, who is mostly unknown but may not be for long.
Jerry, when are you coming out with a new CD? — Marvin Ulhny
Unfortunately, with the busy schedule I’ve had with my book, the Kimmel shows, the Malt Shop Memories show on PBS, and now with Memories and the new summer gigs, I haven’t had a chance to physically put it together. But I have a pretty good idea of the songs that will be in it, and we hope to have a new CD ready before the year is over.
Got a question for Jerry? Send it to AskTheGeator@acweekly.com or Geator Gold Radio, 626 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106. For more info on Jerry’s appearances, go to www.geator.net — and keep on rocking, ’cause you only rock once!
