Hear Them (and) Roar

I am strong, I am invincible, I am funny! The comediennes of the touring Pretty, Funny Women show are showing off their skills Sept. 3-9 at The Comedy Stop Café and Cabaret, located in The Quarter at the Tropicana in Atlantic City. Linda Sundstedt has put together an all-women comedy show that has been running for over 10 years, making it the longest-running female comedy show in the country.

The women in the show have worked together for years, which makes the show even more enjoyable. All of the show's members have a lot of experience in the comedy business. Sundstedt also writes for Chelsea Lately on the E! Entertainment network, Heather McDonald was a contributing writer for the movie White Chicks and guest-starred on TV shows such as Frasier and Reno 911. Shawn Pelofsky has opened for Bill Maher and Jody Ferdig has shared the stage with comedians such as Dave Chappelle and Rodney Dangerfield. Vicki Barbolak, the fifth comic in the show, is this year's winner of Nickelodeon's Funniest Mom in America.

These funny ladies are sure to entertain both women and men with their hilarious standup routines and honest outlooks on life. More information on the show can be found on the show's MySpace page at www.myspace.com/prettyfunnywomen.-- Darlene Dobkowski

See You in September

Although Labor Day weekend generally signals the unofficial end of the summer at the Jersey Shore, it doesn't mean that things stop at a standstill around here until next spring. Following some of the final beach concerts, barbecues and fireworks (both Atlantic City and Wildwood will have 'em) of the season this weekend, things will begin heating up for a fantastic fall line-up of happenings in the area. Among the events are the Good Old Days Festival in Somers Point on Sat., Sept. 8, featuring Terrance Simien and The Zydeco Experience, a two-day outdoor blues festival in Atlantic City (Sept. 29 & 30), including sets by Bobby Rush, Big Bill Morganfield and Tab Benoit, the Wetlands Institute's 25th annual Wings 'n Water Festival (Sept. 14, 15 & 16) in Stone Harbor and the Festival of Fine Craft with 160 juried artists at WheatonArts and Cultural Center on Oct. 6 & 7. -- JS

“That show was ahead of its time. Nobody is like Dave Chappelle. People still love watching Chappelle’s Show because it’s funny and it’s honest. That’s an essential ingredient when you do comedy. You really need to be honest and few people have ever been as honest as Dave Chappelle.”
