Earth Day

Treat the earth well: It was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children. We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children. ancient Native American proverb, attributed to Chief Seattle (Skokomish)

Although we really should treat every day like its Earth Day, Sunday, April 24 is a good time to start. Among the local events, the Atlantic County Utilities Authority celebrates the 25-year old tradition with its annual festival celebrating our planet. Egg Harbor Townships 360-acre Haneman Environmental Park on Delilah Road will have events from 10am-4pm, including environmental exhibits, nature walks, pony rides and a Marine Mammal Stranding Center benefit run. An Eco hayride will teach participants about local environmental protection and the ACUAs new landfill gas-to-energy project, which is being operated to provide power to the entire ACUA Haneman Environmental Park. To learn more about the festival visit Acua.com on the Web; visit Earthday.net to learn about the nationally-recognized day and to find out about happenings statewide. If you cant make an event, try to at least make an effort to help your family practice things like water conservation, recycling and being mindful of litter.

Wild & Crazy Play

Picasso at the Lapin Agile, the award-winning play written by Steve Martin, makes a stop for a few days at Stockton Colleges Performing Arts Center from April 20-24. For $8 a ticket ($6 for students and seniors) you can experience Martins imagined meeting between a young Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein at a Paris bar in 1904 where they discuss art, science and the future of the world. Martins first stab at writing for the stage, initially produced by Chicagos Steppenwolf Theater in 1993, has been called intelligent, witty, very funny and absurd. For ticket information call 652-9000 or visit on the Web at Stockton.edu/pac.
