Festivals, fun and more in South Jersey this fall.
Because of this summer’s weather, expect beautiful fall foliage, more expensive than usual apples at local you-pick-em farms and cool breezes along the area’s boardwalks. From Cape May and Wildwood to Ocean City and Atlantic City, autumn is in the air — in the migrating monarchs, pumpkins on the porch, long shadows and earlier sunsets, rough surf along the shoreline, school days, football, and Halloween candy on display (not to mention Christmas!). Here are some choice events, festivals, concerts and more happening this fall in the South Jersey region. DO SJ!

Even the dunes can be beautiful this time of year with their seagrasses blowing in the wind. Down by Brigantine, where the bay and the Atlantic come together, waters are calm and can appear as a dark sheet of granite. Once the cranes and boulders are gone, the view in front of Revel will be an endless panorama of sand and ocean waves rolling in one behind the other.
Atlantic City is staring down the barrel of Labor Day weekend after experiencing the single most diverse array of live entertainment ever presented here during one summer. Not just during the last 34 summers of the casino era, either, but throughout its entire gaudy, bawdy and, occasionally tawdry 160-year-old past.
After the heat and sun of summer, southern New Jersey relaxes with some cooler weather, less crowded beaches and roads (and hopefully less rain) and a local flavor during the fall. Here’s a look at some events and activities to help you enjoy the shore’s second season.
Dark Fall Productions, the local film production company developed by Margate resident, Alex DePhillipo, is getting ready to unleash another project.
After last week’s (Sept 1, 2011 issue) preview of some exciting movies on tap at the Toronto International Film Festival, here are the ten films from the Hollywood dream factory that I’m most looking forward to seeing, topped by the American version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. They are listed in chronological order. Contagion I love end-of-the-world dramas. Two of my favorites from this particular strain, the deadly virus genre, are The Satan Bug and The Andromeda Strain. My hope is that Steven Soderbergh has done the genre justice — he certainly has an amazing cast including Matt...
