Southern Shore Brings Big Names

When the Southern Shore Music Festival continued the tradition of the Bridgeton Folk Festival last year, a lot of people wondered what would change. "Mostly there's just a lot more variety," says Bob Rose, organizer and founder of the 25-year-old festival. "It's got straight-ahead classic rock to blues to jazz." This year's line-up promises to deliver just as much variety with heavy hitters like Dr. John, David Bromberg, Robert Hazard and Charlie Thomas' Drifters. Bromberg headlined the second year of the Bridgeton Festival, and he's a headliner the second year of Southern Shore. "It's funny how it worked out," says Rose. "I guess that shows endurance for both of us."

While the music may be aimed for college kids and adults, free entry for children 12 and under, pony rides, a moon bounce and Guitar Hero stands ensure fun for the whole family. Homemade Jamz Blues Band even brings this family vibe to the stage. The youngest blues band in the country, HJBB is made of three siblings, only 9, 11 and 13 years old. "People are really going to be surprised by these kids' showmanship," says Rose. "No one will expect what they see...it's a sense of discovery that's always good at a festival."
